Maintenance at Dealership

I know I've seen some feedback before, did a search and cannot locate so forgiveness if this sounds like a broken record appreciated.
Last week, I went in for an oil change. To my surprise, the bill was around $90. I said wow, how do you change your pricing like that? "Well sir, it was your 18K service that was overdue! And so there is no surprise, your 24K is due soon, that takes about 3 hours, you will get a loaner and the whole thing will run about $900." I was really impressed by now, just what do you do? "Well, we check things and rotate the tires." He was totally oblivious that the G is an S, you can't rotate the tires. I just tell him I'm not impressed at all, pay and leave. (there is also 22K on the car, much closer to 24 so why do the 18?)
I checked the manual, there is the preferred, level 1 and level 2. Most my miles are highway, I'm thinking level 2 is what is required to maintain the warranty.
How have others dealt with the stealership on these matters? Any comments, suggestions appreciated. I can only do minimal DIY due to lack of time/facility. On the other hand, I am not a money tree either.

just dont go to them. Learn for yourself and through recommendation and experimenting get youself a trusted mechanic. Its like a family doctor, if u continue to go to the same guy hell know you and the specifics about your car. As you go to him more price will prolly go down to

Make sure you ask what's being done and what it will cost before you sign off on any work being done.

I'm on a lease, so I'm only doing the minimum as well (level 2 in the manual). You can always refuse work offered (e.g., tire rotation).

Dealerships make most of their profit from service, not from sales, so keep that in mind when you're getting work done in their service dep't.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to stick with the dealership as I have had bad experiences with warranty claims in the past which I believe had to do with having service performed elsewhere.
I'll take the suggestion to negotiate the work being done and relate back to level 2 for reference.
I'm on a lease as well and won't decide whether to keep or leave for quite some time.
And yeah, won't be dealing with this guy (maybe they take the tire off, walk around the car and put it back on? lol). With good luck the other service rep will be better to deal with. If not, then I'll be asking if there are any good shops around.
