Dropped the G off to get mods installed

Yesterday I took her out for a spin and dropped it off at my mechanic to get all the parts done. He mentioned it will probably cost me anywhere from 5 to $800. ! It seems kinda high considering he's not a shop I don't know it could be me. I have Calipers, rotors, both compression rods, headers and test pipes to get installed so I guess it would be allot better than bringing it to a shop.

Thats deffenitely a few hours labour, but i giess it all depends on hourly rate. If you're taking it to a privateer and hes cahrging you $100/hour, i'd think twice. He may be a great tech however, but you have little to no recorse should something go wrong.

Assuming thats 4 rotors, calipers, and the exhaust work, comp. rods etc... I'd say thats a good 8-10 hours work. Not too bad really, but most reputable auto shops charge ~$120/hour so its not terribly cheap. I'm sure you trust him/her so thats worth a lot too.

I do trust this guy he's done pretty much all my work on the G including the painting. his rate is $45./hr but he does take longer to do things than the stealership, I told him no rush so he's going to have my car for 4 weeks.

Make sure you get an alignment too after the compression rod install.

$500-800 is cheap, headers are a PITA i would pay $500 to get them installed alone.

It's the headers that cost the money there Roy. He's gotta take the engine out.

You'll have to bring it by the shop so I can hear those test pipes.

He got the compression rods and brakes done today I'll see what he's gonna charge me for the headers when he sees whats involved.
In the opinion of those that have headers installed does the performance gain really outweigh the installation cost??

From what I know, they are sorta worth it. But with a tune they are very much worth it!

So, I say install em, see how you like it and then get a tune.

To install headers he does not need to remove the motor... I have installed 2 sets and they are a pain in the butt. The man will definatly earn his money installing these mods. 5-8 is really not that bad. I have seen headers installs around $500 alone.
