What to do with OEM battery?

I changed the OEM battery last week and I was wondering if anyone knows where to take it to be properly recycled.

I heard that there are recycling programs that give you money for your battery, depending on the condition, but I'm not aware of any places.

Does anyone know of any?

The battery is 5 years old and has never been charged since it died a month ago. I'm assuming it might still be good after a charge, but I decided to just get a new battery anyway due to the age and threads I read on the forums about the OEM battery not being so great after 3-4 years.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Around here I can take mine to the local landfill where they have a dropoff for batteries, paint, appliances, used oil, propane tanks, etc. They don't give me money for 'em though. Couple times a year, the Fire Dept has a dropoff day, too, you could look for something like that.

Thanks for the input!

I never changed a car battery before.

I just want to make sure I dispose of it properly.
