Rear Axel problem?

Hi Guys,

I have a 2003 6MT with 25000km. I started having a clicking noise coming from the rear when I go into 1st or 2nd gear. I called the dealer to have them look at it, and they claim this is a common issue. They said they have had problems with the rear axel becoming "loose" and they would need to tighten it. Has this symptom/issue happened with anyone else out there? If so, what became of it?

Re: Rear Axel problem?

I have this problem as well, but haven't taken the car in for service yet. The general consensus is the splines on the axle need to be cleaned/greased or the axle needs to be replaced. I can hear mine "clicking" from the rear passenger side usually happens from a complete stop and the 1-2 shift. With the windows down and no radio its very annoying. If you go in for service let us know how you make out.

Thanks

Re: Rear Axel problem?

Hey,

I just went in for my 12,000kms appointment and reported the same problem. I get it at 1st and 2nd gear too but also when the car lurches in 1st (if I gas it a little too hard - right when I let go of the accelerator). They said the same thing to me as well and I had to leave the car for a couple hours, but when I got it back it was good as new and no sounds. I've been driving it for the past 2 days and no complaints. They said they tightened up the rear axle.

Hope that helps,
Al

Hey Guys,

I recently bought a used 2003 G35 coupe and I am also experiencing the same rear axle noise when I accelerate from a stop. I have done some research and I found on Infinitihelp.com a technical service bulletin that supposedly fixes this common problem. The details of the TSB show the rear axle and wheel bearing being replaced. I know how dealerships operate...all they want is your money so Im sure they're reluctant to replace any parts at their expense. However, since this is a service bulletin, they are mandated to perform the work as stated in the TSB. I believe the costs incurred for labour and parts is covered by Infiniti so the customer shouldn't have to paid a cent, but correct me if I am wrong.
Has anyone been denied of this TSB after confirming the noise at the local dealership? The noise is quite evident at slow speeds so they can't pretend it's not there, but Im worried that they will try to weasel their way out of doing the full TSB to save money. I have heard that they tighten a bolt so the noise goes away temporarily, but then it comes back within a week. Can someone share their experience regarding this issue? Thanks guys!

It's been over 6 months since my last post regarding the 'clicking'...

...and there's been no further problems with it reoccurring. I'd go ahead and do it. They seem fairly familiar with the problem and do a great job. I had mine done at Dixie/401 Nissan/infiniti and like I said it only took a couple of hours.

kamikazeiG35 ,
Thanks for the update. I will inquiry about this common problem at the dealership here in Oakville and hopefully book an appointment asap to get this fixed. So the labour hours and replacement parts are free of charge, right? I just want to ensure that I don't have to pay a cent for this service because it's manufacturer's defect.
