I am creating a Calgary and Area BlackBerry Messenger group. This will enable quick and near instant communications for impromptu gatherings.

If you want to be in this group and are in the Calgary area, PM your BB PIN number to me and I will add you to the group.

Once the group reaches critical mass, I will nominate others as admins to the group so you will be able to PM them as well.

Sorry for all of you non-BB folks. If someone knows of an app that runs on BB, iPhone, and Andriod that gives similar to BBM Group functionality, please chime in.

This could work really well. Epically the calender functionality!

 

Gord has a newer 'Berry (tell us why, Gord) so presumably a new version of BBM. I just upgraded mine, so hopefully I'll get the option to accept the next invite.

You do need to have a more recent version of BBM.

OK, I found three alternatives that would allow messaging between iPhone, BBM, and some others. They are:

BeeJive
LiveProfile
WhatsApp

LiveProfile doesn't seem to have a working product yet.

Both WhatsApp and BeeJive have a free trail. And BeeJive seems to support groups. I would recommend BeeJive, but it seems a little more expensive.
