Unhappy Another "I almost got scammed" post!

Be carefull out there guys when dealing with people from the likes of Kijiji and Craigslist. I almost got scammed big time the other day.

I was trying to sell a couple ATV's and a trailer (to haul them in) on Kijiji. A guy replied to my post and wanted to take them right away the next day and was going to send an employee from his company to pick them up. This should have been a red flag right away, because he didn't even care if he saw the ATV's first before he bought them. He said that he would trust that they were in mint condition, which they are.

We agreed to meet the following day in Peterborough (he was from Woodbridge) in the parking lot where my bank was. I wanted to verify the funds before I gave him the keys (he was giving me a certified cheque). Well, he waited to contact me about a meeting time right after the bank closed so I wouldn't be able to verify the funds. 2nd red flag!

I told him that I trust him and asked him if his check was going to be legit, to see what his response would be. This guy was good, he sounded so honest and accomodating. I agreed to meet him at Costco instead, since the bank was closed and it was closer for both of us. I waited 2.5 hours for the guy to show up, and calling him every 30 mins or so to find out where his driver was. He told me that he couldn't get a hold of his driver and that his cell probably died. So I waited. I finally called him back and told him that I wasn't waiting around any more and to let me know what happened with his driver.

The next day I tried calling, texting and leaving messages for him, but no luck. He didn't answer my texts and he didn't return any messages. His phone would go right to voicemail when I called him whereas the previous day he would answer the phone immediately. Wierd Eh? The guy just dissappeared.

I figured that I did one thing to foil his plan, in that I told him that I couldn't find the master keys in such short notice and that I would have to get them to him the following day. By that time I would have found out that his check was bogus and caught him in the act so I figure he gave up pursueing his plan.

Some people these days. You really can't trust anyone.

Sorry for the long story. There is more, but I don't want to bore you too much.

Be careful guys!

The same thing happened to me when I was selling my rims and tires. He expressed mailed his certified money order insted, it was a big mess, they laid off when I said I was going to get the cops involved.

I always recommend to my customers that if they do intend to sell privately, to always meet up at a Starbucky's or something.... CASH is King! If it doesnt seem right, then it isnt....
