Mileage sucks, new plugs?

Good morning all. I just did a mileage calculation and got 375 kms on 61 lits of fuel..Thats 16.5/ 100 kms or 14 mpg (old guys way). I do a little spirited driving, but come on ---ive been reading the other kms post in this section and im wayyyyyyyyy of the mark.

So as i read other posts on the site im thinking plugs may be in order. Air filter was recently done and oil is due soon. Have 07 coupe with At, 39,000 kms. What is your recomendation for plugs? Im planning on having the work done ( away) from the dealership. Suggestions and pointer always welcome.

Wonder if an ECU reset might be in order? Not sure if that would bring you back 5liters in 100kms but it might be a start. I don't think plugs are scheduled to be replaced for quite a bit longer than that- a la 105k? I've seen some as early as 60k... BUT- as you already are well aware I'm hardly an expert on such things. Now I'm looking more into where I got that and it's for the second gen engine.

I presume you're using the good stuff? 91 octane- or, as I know it... the buck twenty five stuff.

Yeah guys- high octane on the island is $1.25. Stupid island and all this water around it. Frickl.

As for what kind of plugs- I'm not sure... apparently the ones in the car are already pretty good. Unless you're getting knocking...

But with that being said- not to hijack your thread- I've been noticing a bit of hesitation down at my idle speed that I'm not sure was there before. Not sure if I'd call it knock or not... to me a knock is generally at the door.

Changed mine at 100K and they were still reasonable. Never did an ECU reset though.

my car is at 95k , gonna change it next time when i go to Simones. i think he has a good brand which he was advising last time.

but i kind of get the same mileage nowadays if all city driving.it doubles usually on highway.

filters(especially oil) usually the reason for bad mileage. its hard to say since winter consumption is usually worse. 39k is a bit too early for plug change , correct me guys if im wrong they usually change them at 80k and more. but what the heck i dont think its that expensive to replace them.

^oil filters cause bad mileage? I don't think so. Air filter will have an impact but minor.

I get 16mpg city, 24 highway on average. You arent far off the mark. Maybe compared to some old fogie with an extremely light foot. The slushbox doesnt help milage. Your tire pressures may be too low. You may be in stop start traffic too often. Your foot may actually be made of lead. If you let the car warm up for longer than necessary in the morning its going to ding mpg as well. There are many variables to look at when it comes to this ****, not just sprack plugs. The most prominent (which we as Infiniti owners should probably have already realised) is that our cars are pigs. They were before we bought them, and they will continue to be.

Oink oink.

It's true: "You can put lipstick on a pig, but you still can't call it a lady."

I just looked into my logs and I was pulling 14L/100kms often and 11-12 at the very best of times. That was back in the days I was doing a lot of highway but after I added the bolt ons. Sorry bro, I think you might as well just join the club.

Does anyone know if leaving Snow mode (on the AWDs) on will help fuel economy? I know it does something to the wheel power distribution but I've also noticed it doesn't really let you hit high RPMs, so it'll prevent you from accelerating too quickly essentially.

^no, its very likely to help fuel economy. It essentially locks up the centre diff until a certain speed is reached- IIRC 25km/h. It also reduces throttle response and opening more than just the regular VDC when any wheel slippage occurs.

I didn't really see the benefit when trying it.

Because it dose not require service.
