I concur. I have one too... basically just able to plug it into the computer and it essentially downloads all the codes for the devices you need and then allows you to program every activity. VERY good buy... but not cheap either. Then again, good things aren't cheap and cheap things aren't good.

as it goes, you get what you pay for. Logitech Harmony remotes have always been a plus in my book

I just googled the Logitech Harmony, that is pretty slick and I'm getting tired of using multiple remotes. I will definitely check this out in the future.
Thanks guys.

The Harmony remotes are OK if you want to DIY, and they're really reasonably priced, but they're kinda flimsy and IR only.

When I put my system together a couple years ago I sprung for a Genesis MX-900 remote. It was pricy (about $450) but it's built like a tank and works great. It uses RF rather than IR, so it even passes the "big fuzzy blanket" test. The downside is that you really can't program it yourself - it cost me $200 for in home programming, but updates are free.

Thanks Craig. In our small town it's pretty difficult to get in home service, so the logitech might be what we want.
The important thing is "How do these remotes withstand multiple drop tests??? My wife is constantly dropping them on the hardwood floor .

Sounds like the Harmony is right for you. I've had one on my upstairs setup for about 5 or 6 years now and it's been fine (maybe thanks to the area rug on the hardwood). At the price of them a broken one isn't the end of the world, and you can dump the programming to a replacement really easily. They can be finicky to program if your receiver or other components have a lot of toggle/loop settings rather than discrete on/off settings, but it just takes some time.

+10...using a Harmony One, 890, and 550, got rid of my 1000.

The Harmony One, IMO, is the best. Traditional remote style, has a touch screen, looks great, buttons click nice and is rechargeable. Clocks in at ~$250-300, sometimes on sale.

If price is an issue, I'd go with the 550. It's not rechargeable, but sleek, thin, durable. Only flaw is its buttons don't click as nice as the One, but for its price, I'd hit it.

The 1000/1100 feels like a netbook, most of the time requiring two hands to use. It's more of a show off remote rather than ergonomic/convenient.

And for those that are shopping for one, just remember they all pretty much function the same, some add touch screen with pictures/icons where others just use a button. Don't assume paying more gets you more function, you just get more eye candy.

Excellent info John, thanks. I'm glad Bill started this thread
I'll have to wait until I make a trip to the city to look around for one.

Here is a link to Logitech's site for the Harmony One http://www.logitech.com/en-us/remote...s/devices/6441
I have been doing some searching and so far Future Shop has the best price at $249 Can.
