Coilovers year round? Experiences?

I've been thinking of picking up some coilovers this summer to give my ride a bit of a drop for the dry months. However.. this car is my daily driver, and I also have to use it in Saskatchewan winters.

Is anybody currently using coilovers through winter? or past winters? I've read a lot of posts about seizing, and it doesn't sound like fun. Given where I live, is this even a realistic option?

If I do have them installed and aligned properly, would I have to get them re-aligned every time I raise and lower them 1" to 1.5" ? (I don't put many km on my car, so a little bit of added tire wear won't kill me).

I was looking at the Tanabe Sustec pro-5 because it drops the F/R 1.5" (summer), and at the high end it drops about .5" (for winter).

I'm a suspension newb..

Thank-you

I have lots of friends that use coil overs on DDs in the winter I have never heard any complaints about them seizing.

To avoid them seizing up, just cover them in Vaseline (the threads and collars) it stops everything fom getting in there. OR wrap some packing saran wrap around the lower coil lol

I hope my car doesn't get the wrong idea if I try that.. I mean.. I love it and all.. hehe

So the coilovers are do-able if I do some care and maintenance on them throughout the year.

Are there any coilovers that people would recommend (able to raise enough for winter, with a drop for summer? I will still be running the OEM optional 18's without any spacers or rolled fenders. yet..)

They will all be the same for defense against winter.

So just pick what suits you in terms of price and comfort.

As long as you don't get anything with stiff springrates/dampers and don't dump your car you should be fine.

I think the Tanabe Sustec Pro 5's are fairly mild. Even at lowest setting I believe it's a 1.5" drop in front/rear (I think it would be a good looking drop for a DD though). I don't race or track the car, and I don't drive it very aggressive.

Anyone used these coilovers? I'm also hearing good things about BC coilovers.

I only know one person on the Tanabe and he loves them.

BCs are a great coilover but will ride a little harsher than the Tanabes.

I'm on Tein Basics, I adjust the height every winter/summer for the last 3 years... no issue so far.... I only heard bad things about Tein after I bought them but I haven't had any issues yet *crossing fingers*. The Basics do not have dampening control which I actually like cause I don't track and am too lazy to figure out the optimal setting..... apparently it auto-adjusts itself with the height....

^ it adjusts the pre-load with height, but not the actual dampening of the strut.

man.. there are so many options to choose from. It gets overwhelming

Tanabe, BC, F&F, Stance, Megan, Ksport, etc...

I'd like to make the right choice the first time around, I don't generally have a lot of cash to play with

Megan racing street 10K/8K seem decent..

I hear you.. I've had the mod bug since signing up. There are so many parts out there, and a lot of great vendors for the forums. Cash?.. not so much... *laughs*
