'Summer' wheel quandary
Late April in Calgary. OE 19's with OE tires (Potenza RE050A) with mayyyybe a summer's worth of tread left.
Do I: a) put them on now and take a chance it won't snow again :icon30: b) keep burning up my Blizzaks until late May :dunno: c) buy a new set of 3 season * tires ($$$), but with a view that they'd save my winters while I'm hot-dogging on the dry streets :coolio: Fronts: 225/45R19 Rears: 245/40R19 (might want wider tread/lower profile so they have less of the poke/stretch look too) I don't want pure summers again for a bunch of reasons, mostly their cost, noise, tendency to tram-line and short tread life plus the aforementioned shoulder season traction gambles for a daily driver. The Yokohama AVID ENVigor high perf 3 seasons can be had for under $800 from Tire Rack. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...l&sortValue=22 Hmmm... *no such thing as an all season tire for this climate |
Man up and put on the summers!! I did. (though that's no guarantee of wisdom)
If I were buying new 3-season skins I'd look at those Potenza RE760 Sports. Do the Yokos have a rep for being noisy? |

I like 245/35 for the fronts, and have yet another set of 255/35s on the rear. I do like having a full 10" of rubber in the rear (snicker) but in all honesty could go with the tick more sidewall of a 245/40.
I had a tire on my previous car much like the 760s, Potenza RE910s; they were great in the dry and phenomenal in the wet. The closest I've seen in a BS tire is the RE960AS, I'd be tempted by those also. UHP, "all-season": http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires...pole_ci2_l.jpg |
Buy winter meats for factory wheels, then buy ballin summer wheels plus summer tires. Ches?
|
Do you have pictures of your set-up? You have a diameter difference of 4.16% for front and 3.22% for rear. I'm going to go 255/40/19 in the fronts which is the same diameter and sidewall height as your fronts now. I just wanted to see how tall the tire looks. Going aftermarket wheels though. Also I run summer tires for all three seasons except winter, hell I even take my car out with summers when the trucks come and melt the snow.

I already have 18" ASWs with 225/50R18 for winter (Blizzak LM25/60), so I'm kinda stuck just putting tires on the OE wheels. That said, I'd like a set of 19" forged, light weight, deep dish wheels... :JAMIN:

Winters - 225/50R18:

Need some spacers... :driving: |

225's will never ever ever turn that car properly. Ever. I don't know why datsun thought that was a good idea. I'm beginning to notice they think a lot of blatantly stupid things are good ideas.
What's the sizing on the factory wheels? |
