They killed bin laden
I tell ya what though I think he surrendered during the fight there's no way your getting a single bullet head shot with an MP5 in a fire fight

An mp5 fires a conventional 9mm parabelum pistol round so I'm not sure how anyone would know it was an mp5.
I actually heard it was an ak round- which is in fact more distinctive. It made sense to me because a deeply embedded special ops / black ops team would be foraging off enemy supplies and ammo- so getting hit with an ak round made more sense.
Mp5 is an extremely popular counter terrorism / cqb weapon mind you so it definitely fits the mission profile- if all they did was come in with their knees to the breeze.
I'll have to read a bit more about it and see what they're saying.

As mentioned - his body is long gone. This is all we have as proof...

I don't like violence of any kind but in this case I'm glad he's gone just for the peace of mind and closure it will give to so many people.

very true...US federal elections are next year I think, perfect timing, no? I was up last night watching all this, my buddies and I were talking about this, and two interesting points were brought up, a) this could be a catalyst to a much larger war making campaign, with the recent instability in the middle east, and the apparent lack of a front man for al-qaeda, this could lead to a greater instability in how and when terrorists will strike and also, what does war do when the economy is bad, jump start it. So to jump start the economy, a new enemy is found and a new battlefield is made ( coincides with elections, makes Obama look like the man for assassinating Osama, and boost economy with a new war campaign) but, b) the other point my other buddy made was that osama has been dead for years,( leaked memo wikileaks) and this announcement may might have to do with a political agenda to end the wars and stop spending since the US is getting a federal reserve cap. Either way, its great no doubt but the other edge of the sword is, what's next?

I tend to believe the U.S. reports that he's dead. One way or another, whether he was killed yesterday or died by some other means at some other time.
It's far to risky for Obama to make this claim/statement without being 100% certain. Just imagine if a new Bin Laden ('hey I'm not dead...wasn't killed May 1st 2011') video were to appear following the claims by Obama.

He's dead.
Whether he is living or dead may have no immidiate relevance, as it's likely if he were still alive the CIA would keep him 'quiet.' If he is indeed dead, whether recently or in the distant past, the United States no longer needs his name as a scapegoat.
