Trying to find some decent price on brakes and rotors yet i cant believe i am paying nearly the cost of all those parts to ship them back home.
Any tips for a noob like me?

I've used Tire Rack a number of times (tires/rims, brake pads, rotors) and have always gotten good service. The last time I ordered front break pads and rotors (weighing roughly 39 pounds), and paid $70.00 for shipping including brokerage fees. Even with that charge it was less then getting the same/similar parts locally.

I think it would depend on what quality of brakes you are ordering. Naturally you aren't going to save as much on an OEM replacement as you would on some Brembos.....when comparing shipping cost to the cost of the parts.
What are you ordering and where from/too.
If there not expensive brakes you can possibly get a local retailer to match an online price. It doesn't hurt to ask.
My tire guy matched Tire Racks tire price (for a couple brands he had in stock) so I didn't have to pay shipping. If I had not asked him coming close to Tire Racks price I'm sure I would have paid a fair bit more.
These guys are reliable and sell Brake Kits but probably not what you are looking for.
