Blew My Engine

Well,

The title says it all

Car was making some ticking noise from the top of the engine me being a smart a$$ i over looked it, thought it wasint that big of an issue.

The noise was there for just over a week so thought whatever ill get it checked out soon.

As i was driving noise got really loud like metal grinding and rattling and it just went in under a 30 seconds didint even have enough time to pull over.

Got it checked out ,

Cause - burning oil

Now i am in the search for a new motor and still debating if i should take this opportunity to do more work to the engine.

Man I read your story in the other thread and was expecting your post. You have an 03 which is the regular motor. There have been many cases of non revup motors burning oil but yours sounds extreme. Did you tear down the motor for inspection and find the root cause like piston rings, valve guide seals. If you can get a cheap motor to throw in then call it a day but if you already have it ripped up then upgrade to atl east forged internal like rods, pistons and some other mods like hr gasket, coolant bypass, bearings and studs. It will cost you like $2k to do a used motor and like $5k to build it up. I see you have plenty of other vehicles to use during the down time.

The car is still parked @ a relatives house we had to push it down i am going to get it towed down this week so as soon as i do and we drop out the engine ill post back here with the root cause.

I would love to work on the motor my only problem is time. Importfest is in under a month and i already paid for vip booth so i really want the car to be ready before then.

It sucks because i was going to throw the money into doing custom work in trunk and interior

I've got a cheap motor for you, you'll just have to figure out freight.

DO NOT waste your money building an engine with forged internals if you are staying NA. The only mod worth doing would be a set of mild cams like Jim wolf S1s. Drop in another stock motor and call it a day.

^What he said. At the very most do new rings and bearings. Beyond that its not necessary unless you already planned on breaking the bank.

man Id like to see the root cause. My last oil change I had only 1.5 L of oil left in the car. I changed the valve covers (for the spark plug seals) and Im hoping for the best. I'd hate for it to be the valve seals...that would be a pain to fix, and time consuming as hell.

man, thought about it...Im gonna see if it is stil burning over the next little while. I dont know if I want to open it up and take the heads off, change the crankshaft bearings, valve seals and piston rings, headgasket...thats an overhaul and mad time or money (if i give to a mechanic) consuming. Maybe i should just refill the oil every so often.

I have an 04 and mine drinks oil as well... about a quart every 700-1000km. I'll definitely have to swap my engine next summer as at the rate i'm going at with buying oil this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Sorry to hear that you had to find out like this
