Vinyl tops were big in the late 60's and early 70's. They looked ok back then but are relics from the past. This was an option that actually increased the value of a car and was a factory option on many vehicles, especially higher end sedans. Cars like Lincolns offered padded vinyls with opera windows. Half vinyls were popular on some coupes, some front half some back half.

The red charger actually looks pretty good with the vinyl roof. Sure does not suit the G though, the lines are all wrong for a vinyl top.
