Subaru BRZ
Just read some reviews on this new Subaru BRZ that is coming to Canada in the spring. 200hp, 2500lbs, 6-spd, front/mid engine, RWD, wide track, low/centered weight.... sounds like it has a lot of potential. Like an S2000 with rear seats.

Anyone got scoop on this?

My S2000 weighs (according to my owners spec sheet) 2765lbs. The last weight that I read on the BRZ was 2662lbs. Wow, if this thing is in the 2500lb mark it's gonna be even more killer!

Here is another article indicating a weight of 2689 lbs. It would be awesome if it did come in at 2500 lbs but I have my doubts. Either way, I'm thinking this will be a VERY fun little car to drive.

And a good indication of the size difference between the MX-5, Genesis Coupe, and Mustang.

Motor Trend says the Subaru prototype will weigh a "feathery 2500 pounds"

Ive read other souces that say around 2650 however.... Also the 2500lbs might be for jdm specs and maybe not represent the Scion version which we get in North America.

Rumor has it that the same 2.0L boxer is scheduled to be turbocharged to 270bhp for the next WRX.
I'd only be interested in a Toyobaru if they give it the FI treatment. Even with low weight, 200bhp is pretty weak.
I can see the Scion version staying a NA version, and the Toyota and Subaru variants getting the TRD/STI turbo treatment a couple years after launch.

30-32 mpg (premium!) in a light, small-displacement car seems kinda sucky, though.

Weight is everything. You can have the best suspension in the world on a 4000lb car and some crappy little tubbed out Civic on cut springs is going to give you a go. Nice thing about a light car thou is you add 20hp and you REALLY notice a difference.
Track or auto-x in a S2000 or a Miata and you'll instantly understand this and why so many guys have these as "toys".... because they are and it's really, really, fun.

Yup. Mostly engineered by Subaru and mostly styled by Toyota. Darren, I know that you mentioned that 200hp is pretty weak, and while I agree in most sports car scenarios, given it's light weight, I am thinking 200hp will make this car a sh!tload of fun. My S2000 performs pretty darn well, and while it has a little more power than the BRZ, it's also a little heavier. I have no desire to trade in my S2000 for one of these but am certainly interested in test driving one when they arrive on dealer lots.
