buying tires online in Canada

Hi all.

Looking at a set of tires for my new (used) 19" rims.

All the shops are insanely expensive, even with the military discount offered by a couple of them.

Looking at either 1010tires or TireRack

1010 has a set for $971 but that doesn't include shipping or the taxes.

The same tires are $622 + shipping through Tire Rack, but they're shipped out of the US. Any idea what to expect for duties and taxes at the border?

Is there a better source for on-line tires in Canada?

Try discount tires direct, they give you shipping and duties and everything up front, I think they have free shipping to Canada right now.

There is a shipping calculator for Tirerack that shows duty, brokerage etc

Get an online price (before shipping, duty, etc.) and ask your local tire dealers how close they can come to matching it. You may be pleasantly surprised.
I go to a local tire shop that has repeatedly come to within 10% to 15% of Tirerack and 1010tires prices. With buying local I get the benefit and convenience of being able to utilize (if ever needed) their other included offers such as lifetime free balancing, puncture repairs etc.

Hmm, I'll give that a shot. But Discount has what I want for just about $950 landed, and that's going to be hard to beat locally. Even with my military discount the best local quote I got for the same package was $1500.
