Help, Cylinder Block Heater

Hello,

I have a 2007 G35x (second gen sedan V36 with VQ35HR motor). It is a US spec car, it does not have the cylinder block heater that Canadian cars come with. I live in New England and I park outside. I am considering buying an engine block heater, but I don't know how involved installation is.

Has anyone installed one of these themselves? I couldn't find a DIY on the forum. I tried to find an installation procedure in the FSM, but I couldn't find it. I think I am looking at a US Manual and I don't think it is in there.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
-Fred

wait.. how cold does it get where you are? I've started my car in -15*F weather and it started up just fine.. unless you have weeks of straight 0 degrees or below, I don't see the need of having a block heater.

In Hartford the average monthly low temp for January is about -9 C (16 F).

My car has never failed to turn over, but I have heard that cold starts are rougher on the engine. I am interested in reducing wear and tear.

Also, after an overnight cold soak I have experienced acceleration stutter under low throttle. According to service bulletin ITB07-045 this could be due to a cold engine. The solution offered in the ITB is an ECU reflash. I am interested in addressing the root cause of the issue.

edit: wrong ITB#

I have no experience with this, but you might consider it.
