Battery Problems

Hey All,

I just returned back from vacation (in turn, I missed another meet. I hope I can make one before the end of the year!) I was visiting some friends in Texas so my car was sitting in my garage for two weeks. Upon my return, my girlfriend went to my place to get my car, but the car wouldn't start. I got the car boosted on Sunday, and it's working, but it's now hesitating to start, but once it's running, it fine. Which leads me to believe it's the battery. I'll find out tonight if it works (keeping my fingers crossed).

Now for my question, has anyone heard of any problems with the battery we have? And I don't understand why the battery drained in two weeks and the alarm disabled (my doors were unlocked when my Girlfriend got there).

I'm going to schedule an appointment at the dealer, but I wanted to find out if anyone had or heard about this issue.

Bad news with the battery man.......I've heard of battery issues, tho not many, but there are a few.
I believe it stems from all the live systems in our rides that gradually take their toll, especially on a battery that may be a 1/2 or 1/4 down to begin with. This could easily happen with short trips and no highway for extended periods.

Since your battery is seriously discharged, it needs to be recharded or replaced ASAP since in its present condition it will put a serious strain on the charging system, besides maybe letting you down again.

Ask the dealer to check it out, recharge fully, and maybe replace it for you.

I went home for 3 weeks and left my car at a friend's garage... I took the keys so the car did not move at all for those 3 weeks and it did start up with no trouble when I came back. I suggest you do go to the dealer and ask what the problem is.

If it helps I have Nav and my Nav + bose radio stations/settings did remain.

Thanks Colin, I figured I should take it in. I'll give Jerry a call soon.

Funny thing, seems like everything is back to normal again.

As for the meet in September on the 18, I think I can make it, but I'll know better as the date get's closer.

Def a prob with your battery or a ground fault somewhere. My car was stored for nearly 18 weeks with the battery disconnected (no charging during that time) and it started the car up as strong as normal.

That's a good point Deane: Positive and Negative connections at the battery could be an issue too.

Good luck with the fix, Tauseef, The dealer should be able to determine a poor connection or battery prob fairly easily.

We hope to see you too on the 18th. at Sportsworld.

Thanks again, funny thing, my car has been starting normally and with no hesitation. I didn't get a chance to call Jerry yesterday, but I'm going to do it soon. As for the meet, I found out that we delayed our system upgrade to 17th, and I have to come into to test the system on the 18th. I hope I can get out of it in time to make it to the meet. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

I forgot to post an update on this. After the Labour Day weekend I went in to Yorkville, and my battery was fine (They told me that it was okay). About 3 weeks ago, started having problems again. I decided to check the water level in the battery and saw it was low. So I topped up the water levels, and connected the battery to a charger. Everything was fine till the Thanksgiving weekend. Battery died again. So I checked the water levels, low again. Called Yorkville on Tuesday and they took me in on Wednesday. They tested the battery and told me that it's defective. So they replace the battery, but I still had to pay for a portion of the battery (pro-rated warranty).

Thanks again for all your help guys!!

FWIW...
Do you know if they checked the charging circuit?
If it was being overcharged, the battery will also dry up.

From what I understand, they tested the battery, charged it up and re-tested. Found that it's not holding a charge and installed a new one. I'm not sure if they checked the charging circuit. Maybe I'll get them to check that when I go in again.

Thanks Ian!

Yep. Infiniti dealership from Dixie replaced my battery free of charge and they didn't notify me that I need a new battery. Wierd Dixie Infiniti. I can't trust them anymore because he/she didn't tell me what kind of work they putting into my engine

Hi Tauseef,
HMMMM, low electrolyte levels in the batt. usually indicate boil off from overcharging.......Did they check the charge rate to see if it's within spec?

If it's overcharging, then you'll end up with a similar issue somewhere down the road.

Hopefully it was just a bad battery and it's fine now, beep any eye on the fluid levels in there tho. just in case

Hope to see you b4 the snow flies.

Colin.

Hi Colin,

I asked them what the problem was, and they said the battery. They never mentioned anything about the system overcharging. I'm definately going to keep an eye on the water levels this time and if I see it go down, I'm taking it back!!

I hope that I can squeeze in a meet to finally put a face to all the names!
