Maintenance Schedule

Hi everyone. I'm a new G35 Sedan AT owner from Kitchener and want to know if anyone here is following Schedule 2 as listed in our Maintenance booklets.

See, I owned a 2002 Maxima prior to the G and always did the 6000 kms interval schedule, but while looking at the service manual, I started thinking that I might just follow the Schedule 2 plan, for a number of reasons:

- I'm not hard on my cars;

- I exceed every requirement, except the "salt", which of course is a normal feature of driving in Southern Ontario winters;

- my communte is 30km, each direction;

- I am leasing and most likely will flip for a new vehicle when this lease is over;

- I would be most concerned with oil life if going to 12000 km, but would go to synthetic for this;

Any opinions? The cost of service doesn't bother me. I'm more bothered by doing something if it's not required.

To think, I used to change the oil in my 94 Z28 every 3000 kms - synthetic!!!... how things have changed.

Thanks in adavance

Albert

Hey akrus.. congrats on the new ride.

This has been discussed a few times...
That salt issue could be a sticky point if it warrantee ever became an issue.
Kind of lame but who knows for sure..

Right now I'm changing @ 8K with amsoil synth.
I've also started oil lab testing to track what's going on in there.
Depending on results I may extend the intervals...

BTW.. there is a K-W meet coming up in sept

Hi Akrus..just wanted to welcome you to the site.
If memory serves me correctly you used to post on the TMEC board, is that correct?
Anyways, enjoy your ride and perhaps we'll see you at the meet on Sept 18th.

Hi Albert, welcome to G35Driver.com-- and a hearty congrats on the new G.

Altho we communicate on G35Driver, which is run out of California....I live just down the street from you..... .
I also hope you can meet up with us on Sept 18th at Sportsworld. See stickied post in this forum for all details and to sign up. We'd love to have you along.

As to the maintenance schedule for your G, -- I do less mileage than most, so the time factor rather than the distance, is much more critical for me, but from what I understand, you can extend the oil/filter change interval depending on usage. As you say, it's all spelled out in the warranty booklet.
I consider the book's guidelines as being a little optimistic, so I err on the safe side, and do mine early rather than late. But that's my choice, and not a requirement.

I use synthetic, as many do, and change mine about every 4k. but I could go 6k if I chose, and use regualar 'dino' oil if I wanted.

We've got several members in our immediate area (Golden Triangle) and I look forward to meeting you all again as well as meeting new enthusiasts.

PM, or post up here if we can be of help in any way.

Colin (GSM) - in Cambridge.

Thanks for the welcome. I tried a couple of searches, but didn't really come up with a definite answer, so I thought I'd try and see if anyone is actually running their maintenance according to schedule 2. So far, it doesn't look like it.

I'd be interested in seeing the results of your oil change tests, when you have them.

Hi Colin. Thanks for the welcome. I will definitely read up on the Sportsworld get together and try to make it out. It would be nice to meet and talk to some G people that could really bring me up to speed on my new toy. There's sooooo much info on the web, that I'm sure that I've glossed over some really important stuff.

Thanks again for the welcome.

Yes, I was a regular contributor to TMEC and had met up with quite a few fellow members in the past. Were you a former member?

As mentioned in my earlier post, I'm really going to try and make it to the meet. Thanks for the welcome, Wayne.

I was more of a lurker on tmec, joined in 2003, only posted close to 200 posts. Had a 94 , and an 02 Max. Went by Frankie on that board.
Hopefully see you at the meet.

I asked Alta and was told that it is HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED. But it is allowed under warranty. YMMV. For what it's worth, on my 2001 Jag S-Type, the oil change interval is 16,000km or once a year. I followed that and there were no warranty issue. Mine you, surprisingly, the car was more reliable than my current G-Coupe. (see my other thread).
