Yippee, Oh Boy, Yippee , (Jumping up and down with glee).

Our gas prices in Kincardine have dropped.
The price of regular is now down to a mere 129.9 a liter.

Heck Deane our prices are as low as yours now. So it will be just like home when we get out there in a few weeks.

Hey Wayne,

It's good to hear you'll be feelling at home with the gas price. I hope we can surprise you though with a bargain here or there by the time you come.
Oh, got to go wash my baby and go and enjoy the new iso thermal plenum spacer install this morning.

As you could probably tell, I am very bitter about our local towns gas prices. They are always the highest in our area so I usually travel over 20 miles to get my fuel (I always make it a point of fueling up when we are out of town, and if I am in my truck I usually pick up an extra 80-100 L in my Jerry cans) .

I gave my baby her weekly wash and detailing yesterday .
Let us know your impressions of your recent mods after you test them out.

I think I can relate to your disdain for your local fuel stations. I feel somewhat the same. All the years I lived in Winnipeg there was competition and some different pricing so you could actually shop for gas. Here it is the exact same at every station 365 days a year and is frequently more in Halifax than even in Cape Breton . It just doesn't make sense.

Right now I'm disappointed with the spacer mod. I don't think it has done anything power wise and my car seems quieter than before with less growl??? In fairness I didn't really let it loose completley through the full rev range in several gears. My service engine light is on however. The car is running, idling and sounding fine though. I've disconnected the negative on the battery and will let it sit tonight to see if that resets anything. Otherwise, I'll have to take it apart and redo everything to try and correct it. I managed to break one of the engine cover bolts on the reinstall. It must have been crossthreaded. Now I've got to get it out and get a new one.

Ian, if you're reading this maybe you can give us feedback on your set up.

I noticed a significant performanc difference right away.
I installed mine at the same time that I did the stereo upgrade
& had the battery disconnected for several days.
So I'm sure that made it quicker for the ECU to addapt.

No engine light on for me....

It's not like there was a huge seat of the pants upgrade..
The car just feels like it's working easier somehow;

My growl didn't change much either (that was alredy looked after )
In short I'm very pleased & can't wait for the thermal kit.
Anything to cool the intake air can't be bad

.....EDIT.....
The other thing....
If it balances air flow & corrects starvation to the front cylinders;
thats got to be benificial to the engine in the long run.

Thanks Ian,
i did notice immediately the throttle response has improved. That's the good news. Power???
My car is idling slightly lower in stages, at first it is at 600 rpm and then when idling for more than 15-20 seconds it will drop to 500rpm. Pre spacer it used to be at about 550. Pre grounding kit it was at 600+.
Hopefully I can figure out what's wrong with the service light. I found Tony's instructions were missing many steps with 5-6 bracket bolts, a couple of hoses and one electric clip all of which had to be removed to set the plenum aside. Nothing complicated but not covered in the instructions

Deane, a change in idle, and an erratic idle may indicate an air leak, and may be confirmed by the MIL.
If the MIL is still on/or comes back on when you go back over it, check the MAF electrical connection, and clamps etc.. If you had the TB off, you may want to check the gaskets, bolts, and clamps that end too.
Barring that, you'll have to back track further around/into the upper and lower plenum, spacer, and gaskets.

I'm surprised that it's quieter after the mod, but not surprised that don't feel much diff in performance, since this mod is aimed at upper rpm improvement, and only by a few hp.
As you know, these VQ's are hard to wring extra ponies out of.

G/L with the fix.

Colin.

Thanks Colin.
I've listened for leaks and carefully monitored the idle. It isn't erractic but just operates differently like what happened after I put on the grounding wires. I didn't have the TB off even though there is some contradiction in the instructions on that. I happened to read Ians post asking Tony about that irregularity.
If it isn't okay tomorrow after the ECU reset I'll do a careful check of everything and if that doesn't work I'll disassemble and start over.
You're right about the tune of these engines. There probably isn't much at least for a few hundred dollars that will make much difference.
I'm sure I'll diagnose the problem and get things working a bit better than before.

Took the G to the U Wash and spent what I saved, she looks sweet.
What a day for a little cruse.

At 113 I may even let her go to 124 and fel no guilt

Hay Sam, I too bought some petrol today.......( ) lol, I now call it 'petrol' because it sounds more expensive......... -- $.99/L for 87.

I topped off the Solara's tank ready for a trip to Halliburton, and also filled 2x 23 liter Jerry cans.
At $1.10/liter for 91 octane, that 55 liters cost me $61.00.!
Talk about liquid gold,-- liquid platinum is more like it.

Can't wait for it to be just good old 'gas' made from 'black crude' again.

Lot more incidents these days of people filling their tanks and 'forgetting' to pay. I'm not the least bit surprised

haha
Tony's instructions said 1 hour working at a leisurely pace for the install. It took me 2:10 to do mine working as quickly as I could betweeen reading instructions and doing mechanical... and the 2 minute pee break.
Maybe the hour was for someone who actually has some mechanical ability and/or without doing the thermal gasket part.
