(Winter) 225/50/17, 235/50/17 or 225/50/17, 235/55/17

Hi,

I would like to know which setup would be the best for me as I live in Toronto. I will be buying my winter tires and rims over the next week or so and I want to know if I should go with either...

225/50/17, 235/50/17? (I believe this factory recommendation)
or
225/50/17, 235/55/17?

I will be picking up Dunlop Sport M3's as the winter tire.

All suggestions are welcome.

I have no problems at all with 225/50R17 front and 225/55R17 rear on my '05 coupe. I have been driving in my snow for a week and a half now!

I have BSA329 with 225/50/17" all around. Blizzaks Lm-22 no problem here. I believe someone told me that narrower is better for winter. And choosing the same tires back and front would allow me to swap from back to front and vice-versa...

picked up a set today...same sizing. A good buddy of mine runs a shop and recomends this sizing.

I went to pick up 225/50R/17 front and 225/55R/17 rear with the BSA329rims, however, just found out that the rims don't fit over the Brembos. Not good news

if you need help, ask for Dave at the Keele and Finch location. Tell him Jason sent you.

Here's a newbie kind of question and I think I know but it seems we have some knowledgeable people here...

Are the rim sizes for the coupe the same front and back? I would think the rear would be wider rims.

I bought silver coloured steel rims in 16" for my winter set-up and they were not cheap...how much are the BSA's mentioned in this thread...I paid around $90 for steel rims.

no coupe has wider in rear that's why if you go with same size all around the rear side wall should be a bit higher for more close ratio compare to stock one, or you can go same size sidewall but wider in rear

17 x 7 Sport Edition E2s shod with 225 (front) and 235 (rear)/50-17 LM22s. Second G coupe, third winter. Had Pirelli 210s last time, and was happy with those too. Talk to Harry at www.bigwheelz.com and mention this forum.

Cheers,
Derek
