Blizzard Hits Halifax

It's a biggie. I guess we got off for part of the winter anyhow. It started about 6 o'clock last night and is still going on hard, expected to go on till this evening. Apparently we have about 30cm down now. The toughest part is 70-90k winds. It seems pretty much everything is shut down.

just read it this morning on globe and mail. i'm still shocked that it's february and not only is there no snow... i can't remember the last time i saw it here in toronto. definitely a strange winter so far. i got some strange feeling like we're gonna be hit later this month or march though. stay safe out east. nothing like getting injured when u least expect it in that kind of weather. one thing is for sure... i'm glad i don't have to shovel the amount of crap your getting. here's the article of what's going on down there if anyone wants to read it: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...tory/National/

Yikes Deane, I saw all that on the news this morning.....What a 'horror show'.

Giddyup & Ian are right.....take it as easy as you can..and stay safe. You and H. stay home where it's safe for now....no sense taking any chances.... I would think the schools are closed, and I doubt they'll be selling any cars today...

That baby must have sneaked up the eastern seaboard.....sure didn't come thru here.....we've got didly (for now).......
It's weird....the streets are all bare and it's Feb. 1!!!! Unreal for here.

Best of luck with 'the mess' .....let us know how that develops

Colin

Stay safe Deane! We were lucky enough to escape all of it here in Saint John. We had a very light dusting last night and that has been it. We've had the high winds that you were mentioning though.

Thanks guys.

This one packed a wallup. I was surprised that we didn't have any power outages I'm aware of.

We've been lucky so far but guess couldn't escape it forever. Should be a real mess this weekend as they're calling for +8 Sunday and Monday and lots of rain.
Wacky weather.

That 30" dump will put a crimp in your training, Deane....you'll have to get the treadmill out. -- if you've got any energy left after all that shovelling/snowblowing.........
At least the expected temps and rain will help with the cleanup tho it'll stay messy for a while.

G/L with the cleanup....hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

If you need to borrow this, let me know.

Colin

Thanks Colin. That machine looks like it could have come in handy. Mine did the job but it would have taken half the time with that monster. Latest forecast is for +10 Sat. and +11 Sunday with rain both days so it should be goodbye to some of it.

Not worried about the dump re training. I've never missed a day because of weather in 8 years now. Been out in ice, snow etc even wore plastic bags on my feet when we had White Juan hurricane a couple of years. Police have stopped me to say get off the roads on one icy night. My wife couldn't believe it with the bags and forced me have picture taken. I have a TM downstairs that I have been using twice per week now for speed workouts. I expect to be in good shape for Missisauga. I've got some time and place goals set for it!

Hope this one passes without major problems or power outages. The forecast rain could cause equally bad conditions for you.

Take good care if you have to be out and about.

Thanks. This is a pretty common thing here with winter conditions turning to spring conditions and back many times during winter..

Deane, my wife is down your neck of the woods for business and is coming back tomorrow. I am not sure about Halifax, but Saint John is supposed to get some snow in the morning and then turn to rain. I hope that it is all rain for you guys down there so the roads are okay for her drive back.

Should be no sweat Shane. Overcast tomorrow morning and rain or snow in the afternoon (-1 degrees) - but only 1mm forecast. She should be home safe and sound.

Got to like the longer term forecast. Late next week sunny and +10 for a few days.

That's a little more promising, Deane.. You're gonna get all this rain we're getting. (beats the h*ll out of snow)...

Hope An. has a safe trip, Shane.
That's a great trip in the summer, but in the rain or snow probably not so much fun.
C.

This has been the weirdest, warmest winter here in the maritimes that I can remember. Plus 6 to 9 depending on the forecaster, predicted for here in the Annapolis Valley today. I'm running a .5 drives per week avg, with a 2 to 1 drive per wash ratio, thus far this winter. And last sunday we put a road ride on the bikes for a couple hours (55k loop)! Kayaked down the Annapolis River 20 k on the 30th of December, to boot- it was 12C that morning! Great for those of us who are not skiers, I guess. Trust me, not complaining here: I've just never seen anything like this before.

Cheers,
Derek
