break in schedule

Hey, I noticed in the car manual that it states that the engine speed should not be taken above 4000 rpm for the first 2000 km. Can anyone tell me how important this instruction is? Will it realy damage my engine if I top it at 5000 rpm once in a while?

Re: break in schedule

Try to stick to the recommendations for break in. Venturing about 4k once in a while wont hurt anything, just don't make a habit of it. Enjoy.

Re: break in schedule

thanks for the reply. I was just curious though... how do they come up with these recommendations and the numbers (4000 rpm, 2000kms)? does anyone understand the technical details of this process?
