Wheels in Canada

So where do most of you guys buy your wheels? Are you ordering from the US and shipping up or are there good Canadian vendors?

For those that have bought wheels, are you basing it off just a pic you see at a vendor's site or off wheels you've seen on a G already? I have a hard time basing what I like off a picture of a wheel by itself. I either want to see the wheels on a G or see them in person.

What kind of price ranges are we looking at in Cdn dollars? I've just got 18" OEMs right now (front right has a curb rash, which I'm guessing means I won't be able to sell them), but would like to get black 19s with a polished lip.

Do you think there'll be any vendors at the Auto show in TO next week?

Thanks for any insights.

I've bought all my wheels from the US. Cdn vendors are way overpriced from what I have seen. You need to establish your budget and what kind of look you're looking for.

Price range will vary depending on the quality of the wheel. You can get a good set of cast wheels with tires from the US for about $2600 US. But then you need to add your duties and taxes, and it'll be around $3400 to $3500 CDN total. If you go with a light forged wheel or VOLK for example, it'll be approximately another $1500 CDN.

Hmmm, I can't see myself wanting to drop 5 grand on wheels. I'd rather put that 5 grand on my mortgage. I know, responsibility is boring.

$3500 I could rationalize. Do you have any suggestions for a black 19' rim?

i'm getting my wheels through Harry aka BigH from g35.ca, while it's bit more expensive than ordering through the states, it's not by much (by my estimates). The big plus is that i don't have to deal with Customs and Duties (as you are aware of the headaches involved). And it's good to give my business to a canadian fellow

I got a pretty good deal from what i priced out, and right now since the us dollar is low, the exchange rate helped lowering the price a little.

Chico's estimates are pretty bang on.

Same here. I'm hoping to see some deals there as well, but I've heard there aren't too many wheels vendors at the auto shows.

Harry at BigWheelz is great. He will do his best to get you a price that is not more than were you to order from a US vendor, and without any hassle. On my first set of wheels that I got from Harry, we had a prob with a distributor that delayed delivery for my winters. To make good, and get me the wheels ASAP, Harry overnighted them, Alberta to Ontario, no charge. According to the tracking, they left him at 6:43pm that night, and were on my doorstep at 9:21 the next morning. True story. I sold that set with my 03 and Harry set me up for my 05. I am convinced that I could not have got my new winter set-up from a US vendor for any less. Good guy to work with, enthusiastic about his product and about cars. Knowledgeable (you won't get a wheel with an incorrect offset that doesn't fit over your brakes, or is too narrow and bulges the tires around the rim, like my experience with 2 GTA shops).

Cheers,
Derek

To continue with my last post- Just got back from the car show tonight.. Found a wheel vendor that deals exclusively with Iforged. Check out their great selection of wheels at www.iforged.com . Here is a link how their rims look on G's

http://www.iforged.com/showroom/view...album05&page=2

They are at 1075 Queensway west unit 12. Between Cawthra and Dixie .. He hooked me up with a nice antracate (flat black) set of rims at the size of 19 X 10.5 in the back and 19 - 9.5 in the front for $2100 canadian total .. Great deal considering I was going to order a set from the states that are very similar for over $3,000 USD..

These iforged in black is what I'm going with for my IP:

http://www.iforged.com/showroom/view...05&id=g35swift

But then again I like these too

http://www.iforged.com/showroom/view...05&id=nismog35

And I like these, LOL

http://www.iforged.com/showroom/view...05&id=whtieevo

Seems like I have to make up my mind, but they have all iforged in stock so thats good

These guys have installed iforged on alot of G35's and I am gonna go with them .. For more information and their phone number -- their website with full info is at www.megawheelz.com . There is a 350z on their homepage - they said almost half of their business is with G's and Z's so they know their stuff and know about installing keeping the brembos in mind and know all about the offsets .. Think I'm gonna get the tires there as well

I am very familiar with Iforged and know Steve (at Iforged) over there. I can tell you $2100 CDN is not right. There is no way they could have sold you those wheels for that kind of money. You can get a set of 19" for about $2500 to $2800 USD depending on the finish you choose. $2100 CDN is not realistic at all.

Here is their current price list (in USD)...

oh...one more thing...no vendor keeps stock of Iforged as they are custom made for each customer. The leadtime is around 8 weeks.
