What's Wrong With Our Prices???

Just for the sake of comparing prices for my new summer tires. I called around to see what would be the best deal I could get for my new set.

I was quoted for TOYO T1R - 245/35/20 $499.00 each and 275/30/20 $569.00 each for a grand total of $2456.40 including taxes. I couldn't help laughing about it.

My cost at my door from a US retailer, including shipping, taxes, brokerage etc. is $1407.50 CDN. Not a tough decision is it? :D

Hey Chico,

That sounds almost too good to be true! I'm in the market now for a set of wheels/tires - though I'm going 19", as I've been advised against 20's for the ride quality, etc.

If you don't want to go public, can you please PM me the site for the US shop where you got your pricing? I might as well get them to quote on a set for me as well!

Thanks,

Mike

The price difference is huge, but it's real. It's been like that for as long as I can remember. Just about any shop in the US can give you similar prices. But I normally deal with these guys:

forget about tires.... our beer prices compared to the u.s. are out of control!

Marketing 101:
280 million vs 28 million = larger market share = lower prices.
Most local shops won't even quote me a price if they know I've been shopping on the internet -- they say they can't compete... even if i tell them I'm willing to pay a premium to support the local business.

Well that is what you get when you drink US beer that's the same as making love in a boat -- "f'n close to water". :D

I know it's insane. BTW, the wheels I ended up getting are none of the ones I asked for opinions on. ;) I had ordered a set back in late September, but they couldn't make them with the specs I wanted and forgot to call me to let me know. So I wasted 6 weeks waiting for nothing, but I'm glad it happened 'cause I'm much happier with my new choice.:D

Well, that's what I did ... with my rims and tires.. I was so stupid to shop around in the local stores without checking the prices online (It was my first time).. But I have been felling stupid about it ever since

I'm not surprised Mr. 20's.

Canadians get the short end of the stick when it comes to purchase prices on a lot of things, and it has to be a real hit to the economy sending business across the border.

LOL, I had forgotten about "Mr. 20's". It sucks not to support the local economy but $1K in my jeans feel real nice.:)
