Tire and Rim...Is this right?

Saw this pic in the gallery...is it okay for the tire to flare out to meet the rim edge? Looks kind of awkward.

I wouldn't want to be running a tire like that. It definitely looks like the rim is way to wide for the tire.

it is actually pretty popular in other circles to stretch tires to achieve that look. VIP cars in japan and vw's in europe for example.

i don't think it is the best idea if you will be running the car hard though.

stretching tires are almost a norm on my350z...i personally like it all that much. Apparently drifter's stretch out their tires for some positive purpose when drifting...

Thats why I would never run a tire like that for street use. Quite a few years ago (remember I'm an old fart) I was given a set of new tires and I put them on some wide cragar mags I had. They were stretched like that and I wore them out in a month, it looked inmpressive, I could light those tires up and really get them smokin at almost any speed. I lost all my good handling, they were really not too safe. It would be no problem drifting with those tires whether you wanted to or not. That's my reason for not liking that set-up for normal street use.I think it is best to stay within the rim width guidlines that tire manufacturers set for each particular size tire.
