Mac or PC?
 

So, I'm thinkin of doin' the "carputer" thing and was just curious. Which would workout better. I personally use both at home and find that they both have their pros and cons. Would like to know what you think and why if possible. Thanks in advance.

I'm all mac, have been since my first computer. That doesn't mean PCs aren't good for some things.

Just pick what best fits what you're doing in your car and leave the fan boy Mac VS PC stuff for the mac vs pc forums haha

I'm thinking of using it as an "all in one" kind of thing. Nav, music management, Bluetooth interface ( HI just made it illegal to use your phone while driving). I'd like to eventually use it for ECU management as well. What do ya think? Too much?

A Mac Mini might make for a good one that'd fit in the stock navi location, behind the stock HU location, or a few other places.

Screen choice is still kinda limited.

I'm interested in doing a carputer myself, after getting a bit frustrated with the AVIC-F90BT in my wife's car.

I'm on Oahu myself, so I'll lend a hand wherever I can.

I'm not much off a mac follower, so perhaps that's a reason to choose PC over mac - just the easier availability of software to read stuff from the ECU.

What ever works better for you, I personally dont like macs and would rather use Windows or linux.

That's the thing. I'm new to Macs and am more comfortable w/ PCs and the compatibility issue bug me about Macs but I really like the stability of my mac. I know that most OBD II software is PC so I may not even have a choice. But, trouble shooting in my car would be a lot harder in my car than on my home PC... hard to say what would be better. Argh!

Windows has virtually no stability problems, I have kept my computer on for 60 days with out issues (windows XP) and now they have improved stability with W7.

Mac or PC would both work either way, but you will just have to choose between which can run what software.

So then how about software? What do you know about OBD II, and Nav? what have you had experience with?

I used to be a die hard PC lover, now there is no other way but MAC.:biggthumpup:
