This is the one I'm using. I havent had any problems with it....its rated at 3.0 amps if I remember right.

the hub makes a BIG difference. some are just sh!tty. the 7 port ones that come with 2.1 amp adapters (such as the one linked) don't make any sense to me. 500 ma * 7 = 3.5 amp draw.
I've had the best luck with the 4 port hubs (which also come with 2 amp power supplies - hmmmm), though the brand/chipset does indeed seem to affect reliability...
it's a trial and error proposition...

I forgot to mention...I am not using all 7 ports. My gps goes directly to the pc, and all the others (5 or so) through the hub. The power supply I am using spits out 3amps on the (usb only) 5v rail so this is plenty for my needs and has worked fine so far.

I got around to getting some pics of the setup. All the functions from the first pc are there so I didn't retake any of those. These are also with the other front end that I'm using now. I still have a few things that I plan to add on soon since I already have the parts here or on the way. I also hard wired my radar and put the mute switch for it into the center console since I had everything in pieces anyways. The backup camera is on its way and after that...bluetooth/mic for pc to phone and voice commands. Hope you guys like the work.

Thanks guys. If any of you do need help setting one up, I am always willing to donate my time to anyone who wants to do this themselves also. Feel free to ask any questions about this kind of stuff and I'll do my best to help you out.

Thanks for the kind words fellas.
No heat issue to date, even when doing a bunch of updates for hours running at almost full load for quite a while. I am using the stock cpu fan, and I put a small high volume fan over the power supply. Both are blowing onto the components and then there are 2 ports for the air to escape. Have to wait and see when the weather actually gets hot here in SF (which is rarely) and see if there will be any issues then. If there are any, I have a spare wisper fan and a small diameter tube duct that I can run then and it would be fine.
