EVDO Router
Wow, this thing is sexy.
http://www.evdoinfo.com/EVDO_Product...i_20050427264/
Runs at 5v and like 1 or 2 amps. Comes with an auto cigarette lighter adatper which could easily be hacked up and hard wired to any 12v lead.
This is really making me consider EVDO
(sad face = extra $ / mo.)

The thing is, I don't really have a need for internet on the road, and when I do, there is invariably a hotspot, or someones unsecured network nearby.
I mean, from my house, I can pick up 10 (it used to be less, but iti has grown) networks with a decent signal, and of those, 7 are unsecured. So, if I need to hope on a network, I can always find one. Get a good, powerful wireless card, and a good antenna with a decent gain, and you will never be without wireless. And it's free.

yeah, that's what I currently have, and for $19.99/mo it's hard to beat... unless we're talking DSL/Cable speeds, which would be awesome.
If someone comes out with broadband wide area wireless internet service, I'll be the first to ditch Time Warner Commies RoadRunner and get me some mobile goodness.

I have one of these in my car and its bad ***. It connects automatically when you start it, I power it off the 5v from the PC power supply and its really fast with verizon EVDO, good enougth that I woudl consider it broadband although not really as fast as my cable modem.
Mp3car.com also sells these USB adaptors for slightly less: http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...roducts_id=214
When the SDK for StreetDeck is released there will be a couple interenet enabled plugins. One connects StreetDeck to google maps and lets you look up any POI in google and route to it or call it with your bluetooth phone. Another gets movie listings in your area. Also internet radio works great over EVDO even when moving at 70mph+ and its great just to have access to the internet whereever you go.
