Need help with black G.
Need help with black G.
Need to polish a black G sedan.
Paint is pretty clean, but has some light swirling.
I own a random orbital buffer. Can someone point me into the a light cutting compound/polish, and wax? Time is somewhat unlimited, I am willing to spend about 6-10 hours.
FWIW: i had been using mothers 3 step. It was ok, but once in the sun on hot day it would "melt" and give off a white haze.
Let the suggestions begin

I use a few of the Pinnacle products from www.autogeek.net
I think their Advanced Swirl Remover might be a little much, but you could try the Finishing Polish. I think they sell kits with all the pads etc.

If you have a Porter Cable then I think the best one step polish is the Menzerna Final Polish II. This polishes uses very fine abrasives compared to other polishes. It removes fine imperfections and haze with no problem. I also notice that my paint feels smoother and cleaner after using this polish as compared to others. It does flake a little bit but if you work the product in nice and slow you can minimize it and get great results. I would do this with a Lake Country White Polishing Pad and it should start the detail off right. If you want more drastic results use the Menzerna Intensive Polish first and then the Final Polish II, but I think the FPII does a very good job by itself.
To prevent the protection from just melting off use a sealant instead. My favorite sealant is the Menzerna Full Molecular Jacket by far. Applies/removes super easy, amazing shine, great durability and you only need about 1oz per coat. Other great sealants are the Klasse AIO and HGSG or Poorboy's World EX or EX-P. All of these are great and should give you significantly more protection and shine then the Megs products.
If you really want a showroom finish you can top it off with a carnauba wax like Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax, P21S Carnauba Wax or Poorboy's World Natty's Blue Paste Wax. Those are my favorite because of the really deep reflection they give off making the paint look infinitely deep. All three are great and can be applied/removed in about a half hour.

RE: FPII/IP dusting; you can mitigate that by mixing 30% clearkote red machine glaze (which Detailedimage also carries) with 70% of fpii or IP (in say, an 8oz bottle). I've been doing this for about a month now and it works really well.

Yea the Clear Kote Red Moose Glaze was a product picus really encouraged us to take another look at. It works well by itself or with the Menzerna polishes in the same bottle. Mixing a little bit with the FPII or IP pretty much eliminates any of the dusting while still getting great results from the polishes. The black on your paint should look really black after this process if you try it. Especially if you use the recommended sealants and carnauba waxes after. Let us know how you make out and what you use.
