Help a n00b with proper paint care
I have done a good amount of reading before posting this, but I have so many questions that I want to make sure that I'm spending a lot of money that all my bases are covered. I've done most of my reading on this site and also over at autopia.org.
I have a 2003 G35.
I have already decided that I need to purchase the Porter Cable 7424.
Here comes my questioning.
I was thinking about purchasing the Zaino ultimate package, featured on their website. Is this a good idea? What else to do I need to be fully equipped to tackle caring for my vehicle? I do already have a bunch of Cobra Microfiber towels.
I'm a bit confused as to what accessories (pads, etc.) I'm gonna need to utilize the PC to the fullest extent. Suggestions are welcome.
I car was pre-owned, so I want to make sure I get the paint back to better condition. From what I've read, I should follow these steps:
1. Wash with Dawn.
2. Claybar the vehicle.
3. Wash again.
4. Polish the vehicle (this is one step I'm confused about when choosing what polish to use, please provide suggestions).
5. Wash again.
6. Use a sealant (like NXT?).
7. Use a pre-wax cleaner.
8. Wax for best results.
Does this sound accurate? Can I / should I use the PC to apply and take off the polish, sealant and wax, and if so, what type of pads should I use for each step?
I've also purchased StratchX and PlastiX. Would I use the StratchX in place of the Zaino polishing products? Do they do the same thing?
Last question (for now); Where's the best place to purchase all of this stuff, particularly the PC?
I know that these are a lot of questions, but I wanted to make sure that they are consolidated in one spot as to keep the thread postings to a minimum.
TIA for any help!
