Crystal Guard applied on my G35c in Boston

I have just applied this new Crystal Guard EX kit on my coupe...it turned out great, the car is definitely shinier, and with a layer of CG to protect the car it should reduce the paint chip from rocks and construction in Boston...

You apply it yourself? ANd was it hard? I'm interested myself in CrystalGuard.. Was thinking of doing the quicker way though. EX way looks tempting.

I had mine applied at my friends shop...I would of done it myself but i dun have the equipments...which is the spray gun...and the reason i did the ex kit was because the road condition are so bad that u always get dirt rock chips ...so im just investing to get this which is not that expensive....and this ex kit will last for years.....

If you want to prevent rock chips you will need a clear bra.

Good luck.

Re: Crystal Guard applied on my G35c in Boston

I had yesterday off, so I detailed my 3 week old DG coupe. I did a Dawn wash, claybar, and CG quick. I will probably do a 2nd coat next weekend. It turned out really nice. I must admit I was suprised the claybar picked anything up on a brand new car, but it did. At least it was worth my time. There's not a single mark on my car. Hopefully it stays that way for at least a while.

Now, I just need to find something better to clean the wheels. Eagle 1 didn't get all the grease off..

Man dun do clay bar on ur car unless it is necessary...it really strips ur paint down....for example i would use it if some one paint the lines for the parking lot and got some on my car then i will use clay bar....it is not something that u use all the time...acutally very rare that i will use it....just use gentle car soap and lots of water then u are good to go....for the wheel just use the same soap and sponge...then wax it with wheel wax spray...

Please.. it doesn't 'strip ur paint down'. Claybar will not remove the car's clearcoat. I suppose it could do some damage if you mashed down on it, but properly done, claybar will just remove contaminants from the paint. My car is 3 weeks old, and the claybar did remove some contaminants after a very thorough washing. Using the claybar meant that I had a completely clean surface for a CG application, rather than putting the CG on top of the contaminants.

Re: Crystal Guard applied on my G35c in Boston

I just applied my first Crystal Guard treatment today and have a question. I washed with Dawn, dried/chamoised, then used a clay bar (got a lot of stuff off my 6 week old car I didn't know was on there). I used the method of starting with a dry car, and using a spray bottle filled with charcoal filtered water, and spritzed the car with water, then CG, spread with a microfiber towel, waited 30 secs, and then buffed with a microfiber towel. I only did one panel at a time. I found that after buffing there was still a smudgy looking residue that took a lot of effort to buff out. It almost looked like an oily haze. It wasn't like using a carnuba wax where once you buffed off the haze it shined. The smudges left by CG were really tough to get out and even when I was done, from an angle I could still see some residue in places. Is this normal? As the CG cures do these oily looking smudge marks go away?

on my CG quick instructions that came in the box it says, "don't apply heavy coats of CG quick otherwise it will be difficult to remove haze." could that be it? but that's all it says. doesn't say anything about oily smudges. i also wait longer than 30 secs before i wipe it down, doing 2-3 panels at a time.

Re: Crystal Guard applied on my G35c in Boston

Maybe I just applied a bit too much CG for the amount of water I was spraying. I'm sure what I was calling oily looking smudges they just call haze. My guess is I was using a little too much of it.

I've found that spritzing the area with a little water, or just going over it with the damp "spreading" cloth will get rid of the haze and allow you to buff it out. In any case, sometimes the car will look a tad hazy, but after about a day it turns into a deep, deep shine. Let is "set" and you'll be happy.

Thanks Geo, that makes me feel better. I've done some searching and I've seen very little info about the merit of applying mulitple coats of CG. Does it make sense that applying a second coat...a third coat....etc...would increase the level of the shine and the amount of protection? Or is that just overkill and a waste of the product?
