Got the rear window on the coupe tinted last week and just got back from business. I noticed that when I look at it/through it, it looks like there a strip about 1" high they did not tint from the top. Is that normal for anyone else? I can definately notice it when you look at it/through it. Also where does tint go on the outside or inside?

 

The tint goes on the inside.

If you notice, twd the top of the rear window, they have those little "black dots". Kind of like sun or glare blockers. Sometimes tinters do no t want to tint over them, as quite often the tint they apply does not stick very well over them. By leaving that area empty they take the easy way out. You can however get tint to stay up there if you take the time and do it right.

I suggest you take your car back to the tinter and show them the problem. It could be just that the tinter cut the film a little short and just slapped it on anyway. Either way, if you're not happy with it, let them know.

my tinter did the whole back window and I went from hooper optic, which is nothing special, to a lumar 15% film all the way around and it looks better hands down...the huper looked bad and our free tinter via the dealer tried twice to install it and it looked worse each time...if you are in the dfw area and you want my tinter pm me and ill tell you who to go to...

 

You can tint all the way to the top. But you need to give it some TLC afterwards. After it's done let your car bake in the sun for an hour or so then go out and use your thumb to press it in. More water gets trapped in there so you just have to press the tint against the glass as the water evaporates. It's best to let your car get as hot as you can stand it, even use gloves if you have to.
