Is my front bumper paint ruined?

As I was driving today, the front half of my '03 Ivory Pearl Coupe got covered in a fine liquid mist of reddish spots. It looked like a mixture of red clay (I live in NC) and blood! I noticed a waste truck way up ahead, but I'm not sure if that was the cause. It started gradually, but over a 5 minute period it built up so slowly that you couldn't notice it accumulating.

Anyways, I washed my car tonight and it came off from everywhere (easily with no elbow grease) except the front bumper. The "top layers" of the spots on the bumper came off, but the bumper is still covered in what are now orangish spots and they won't come off. Is it because the bumper is made of a different material than the hood and doors? Is there anything I can use to remove the spots? You can't feel them; it's like the paint absorbed them. Does anyone know what causes this? Thanks.

I too have notice on my Ivory Pearl Coupe that the paint is kind of porous. Whenever I get any bird droppings I try to get it off before it bakes in the sun but it still leaves a small yellowish stain on the paint. I can get most of it out with liquid glass but there is still some in the paint. I also would like to know if it could come out without ruining the clear coat.

I would try windex or waxing with a buffer... and/or a very very very very very light coat of compound wax (do not use a buffer for this).. If that doesn't work most detail shops have stuff that can get it off. Be advised however that after using either of the above that you should wax it again.

Well... let it sit in the sun and see if those dots go away, if not you might need to buff them out. When I let bird dropings sit on the car for a while, it "stains" the paint but after a while in the sun the "stain" disapears.

Re: Is my front bumper paint ruined?

I highly, highly, highly recommend a product called "Clay Magic" sold nationally through the Pep Boys chain of auto stores.

It was originally designed to remove overspray from one paint booth to another. It does not hurt the finish at all. A truely great product.

Whenever I have anything on my paint (Ivory Pearl, too) I first try the clay magic which works about 99% of the time. Second, I put a small amount of carnuba wax on a waxing cloth and i rub/buff by hand directly on the spot. This, in a way, rubs off the very, very top layer of the paint/clear coat. Don't worry it wont hurt anything.

If neither of these two methods help you need to take the car to a professional.

The bird droppings depends on the acidity of it, some will leave a "welt" in the paint, even after just a short time! The REALLY bad stuff is the black stuff, I had that actually eat a hole in the paint, damn!
