Red Paint Fade?

After a long hard decision, I decided to go with Red over the DG. Have 2 silver cars and was ready to stop blending in and start standing out! (Radar detector is going to be a must, I know....)
Anyway, now I'm hearing all kinds of flak from people who've had their red cars paint fade. While I've always heard this, I'm hoping that on a 35K car, it doesn't happen. At least not until after 5 years....anyone know if this might be a problem or how to avoid? Thanks

Red A/T, Graphite, Prem, Perf on order....

Re: Red Paint Fade?

I have a mitshubishi montero sport, red and tan interior, if you garage it and take care of it you will minimize fade, I had my car for 6 years now and I see some fading but not bad, you really need to look at it closely..any try some aftermarket clearcoat stuff like zaino...you will never regret it..I like red it really stands out. A little word of advise, when going to a mall or somthing get valet parking, DO NOT argue for a parking spot..I f you really need to park outside a mall try to find a parking near a buick or somthing, dont park near an equally high performance car...just a suggestion..

Re: Red Paint Fade?

I am pretty sure the Diamond kote protects against UV rays and bird droppings and acid rain ..which can lead to the fading ...
What I suggest is just check it out ... I did and got it for free with the car purchase .. they best thing is ... is it has a LIFETIME warranty ... So I thought well hey ... what the hell...
Just a thought

Dont be a wise a.ss, I will race you with my montero in 6 inches of snow, we are talking about a paint here not a performance car, the only reason for me at least not to park with other high performace car like hundyai, etc is because keying your car is possible..some people gets jealous. Im suggesting keeping a low profile..wise a.ss..

Re: Red Paint Fade?

I have the ming coating on my red and while it's only been 2 months and I park underground I think that it's worth it if you are worried about it....if it's too much for you try zaino as it's supposed to do the same. i plan to see if zaino will apply on top of ming.

Re: Red Paint Fade?

This has nothing to do with the color red...but about the parking next to a car thing...I always park next to (when there's the option) an expensive car because I know that the person who paid that much for their car repects it, and knows how shitty it is when say, someone dings their door into yours (especially since I will NOT put door guards on my car), so they'll be careful. It's the people in the shitty cars that'll be the ones to scratch or not care about your car since they will be the jealous ones...IMO...

Re: Red Paint Fade?

I had a red 1985 Mustang GT for 9 years and didn't notice any fading. It was always waxed, and I often received comments as to it's appearance. As long as you keep a good protectant on the surface, it will keep it from showing it's age.

Ohhhhh what a ride!

Re: Red Paint Fade?

yeah.. i try to stay away from the crappy cars cuz they can ding their and your and not care.. i always look for a nice car, like a bemer, MB, etc.. i'm also somewhat weary of very riced out cars..
