The first thing we do is evaluate the condition of the paint by washing off the dirt, and removing contaminents. In most cases consumers have mild to moderate swirling and marring that they think is normal. Swirls, scratches, water spots, and oxidation are not normal; this is a myth borne partly out of ignorance, and partly because the car dealers and wash bays who inflict this damage on your cars paint want you to think it's normal. Consumers tend to look right past damaged paint and judge a cars appearance by how "clean" the paint is. The problem with that is that under the dirt the paint is often in poor condition, and in all likelihood, it's only going to get worse.

Picus I had a quick question, I saw what you suggested for silver/white and I saw what you suggested for the dark colors(black, blue, etc) but I have Diamond Graphite which I'm sure you are aware is the dark gray metallic color on some coupes. Any suggestions what is best for that color? Wax, glaze, sealants? Thank so much for your time on the guide btw, your very passionate about your detialing and I bet your cars show that. i keep my car garaged and quik detail it every 2 days or so with microfiber. keeps the car nice and clean everyday.

I know nothing about detailing but I just bought my first fancy car a 2008 G35 so want to Wax it properly. On reading the info from Picus, he says: First, this post assumes you have a PC; but not that you know how to use it.I always thot a PC was my computer. I looked up a number that I say herein with PC and came up with a Porter Cable Orbital Sander. I figured this probably wasn't the best thing to use to Wax my car but figure a PC is probably some kind of Buffer. Can someone help me on this? My car is Ivory Pearl which I love. It has some interesting shines to it. Is there anything I should know about how to treat this color or do I do the same things that Picus is teaching. Is there a video that goes thru all the steps for a DIYer that would make me an expert? (just kidding about the expert part)
