Premature leather wear

Has anyone else had any luck getting their leather replaced under warranty? Mine seems to be wearing awefully quick. I've got 7800 miles, cleaned and conditioned several times, and it seems to be getting worse. I've seen other's leather at our local meets, and although everyone else had willow interior (I do not), there's did not seem as bad as mine.

Anyway, anyone else have theirs replaced? Think the dealer will give me a hard time about it?

Re: Premature leather wear

I've had the car for 8 months now, and have treated the leather (cleaned and conditioned) probably 4 times, so I don't think I'm doing it too much. I'm wondering if my seats were cut from a "bad" run of material.

Re: Premature leather wear

I was at the dealership looking at a used 2003.5 Sedan with Graphite leather and the car only had 2514 miles on it and I notice the wear of the leather.

Hmmm, I wonder if this is talking about the creasing, wrinkling that is normal with leather, there is nothing you can do about that! This leather is far superior to what Ford uses, that got creased immediately! Now, the shifter, of course if you grip it like you should, the leather is going to change appearances, this doesn't mean it's "wear" just how leather does! I too would like to see pics!

Re: Premature leather wear

of course there is "leather wear", there is nothing we can do about it... sure u can... not drive ther car! hahah =_=;; jk!!

but i think the wear is lil "fast" for our cars... my coupe is at 9k miles right now... leather seats on our family's honda oddysey (has 20k miles) is in better condition than my car... that honda is 1 year older too, never been treated w/ leather clear n conditioner like my car... but is not too bad... leather is leather...

unless its falling apart, cracks everywhere... i'd say it normal...

Re: Premature leather wear

It's hard to say what type of "wear" or "cracking" you may have. This is highly subjective...........try posting some pics and let us take a look at it. Now, if it really is wearing out pretty fast, there could be several real possibilites:

-leather defect
-shampooing the leather w/o conditioning (leather has natural oils and by shampooing it, the leather would lose some of that natural grease, which is why conditioning would cure it w/ oil.
-UV rays: if your windows aren't tinted, then you're leaving your interior exposed to harmful UV rays that create premature wear and cracking (many ppl use waxes and sealants to protect the exterior, but often overlook the importance of protecting the interior)
-Normal wear from usage (If you've noticed there's likely more wear on the driver's seat than the rear seats..........that's because the driver's seat is used the most...........it's natural for leather to wear)

Re: Premature leather wear

I got creases/wrinkles in my driver's seat within the first few weeks of having the car!? No cracks or tears so far though; then again, I've only had the car for 3 months and I've cleaned & conditioned them twice since.

Okay, get used to it, leather is going to get creases and wrinkles, that is just something leather does, if it's not getting those, it's not leather but vinyl! If you push your finger into leather, then into vinyl (like our seat backs are) you'll see the difference!

Re: Premature leather wear

My butt is experiencing premature wear. I'm only 23, dangit! I think it's the G's controls... anyone have a conditioner in mind?

Kidding aside, I think that as long as you CLEAN it often and don't over-condition it, you should be okay. As for replacement... I'm not sure, you might want to check with your dealer and explain that your a$$ isn't made of sandpaper, so the wear shouldn't be so extreme. Random question, but what kind of pants do you wear? I noticed that khakis and good suit pants work fine with leather, but denim tends to fade into it and pull the leather down with it.
