Auto Dry Car Wash!

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
If you go to a self car wash there is a "Spot Free" drying system. Basically the filter get rid of the minerals in the water that cause spots. Its not the soap. Hardwater causes spots just like in your shower.

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
Rob_G35 - maybe you missed it, but this kit does include a filter to remove the hard water. That's why I'm interested since we don't yet have a water softener.

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
Once the car has dried, water will bead on it like normal. It only sheets after you wash with their soap. I think the purpose of this is to not have large pools of water (like water spots) sitting on the paint surface. If it sheets off (ie no surface tension), then it will more quickly evaporate. Quick evaporation + de-ionized water = no spots.
If you wash and rinse the car with only de-ionized water, then the sheeting would be unnecessary, I suppose.

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
There is a replaceable water filter in the unit that filters the water and is good for supposedly 3 washes. As far as their soap goes I don't think it's that necessary. Once it warms up I'll try a different soap and see how it works with a filtered rinse. as for the sheeting and all that, the last time I used it water sat on the top of the car and on the trunk and that dried with no spots. I think it's just a matter of the water being clean. Like ABQ said he uses deionized water for np spots and this is the same thing. Just probably a little eaiser to apply it would seem.

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
I don't see how this filter is only good for one wash. Isn't the PURe filter in there just a granulated carbon filter like in my Britta in my fridge? I haven't changed that sucker in 6 months and the water tastes fine.

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
I think quite a bit of water flows through the filter when you wash the car compared to the amount you drink in a month.
I think a lot of my water spots come from dust sticking to the water (I live on a dirt road ) Will this prevent or reduce this by allowing the car to dry faster and/or with less water beads?
Can I get that $5 coupon anyplace else? The website says 4-6 weeks to get it.

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
Do you have a Target or Wal Mart type store around? I went to Target yesterday and got mine for $19.99. After shipping and what not if I ordered from the site it would be like 40 bucks! I also heard some auto parts stores have had it.
Im going to try it out later today.

That's 4-6 weeks just to get the coupon, I assume I can use the coupon at Wal-mart or Target. I usually don't bother using coupons but $5 is enough to make me use one.
$14.99 < $19.99
Edit - And even at 14.99 that's $5 per wash , I hope the refills are significantly cheaper. Even if the refills ae a lot cheaper it had better work great for the cost. I get a ton of washes out of a regular cheap bottle of car wash soap.

Re: Auto Dry Car Wash!
Well, using de-ionized water to wash my car, it costs me about $4 each wash, I wash the wheels and tires with the hose, then final rinse with the de-i, but the rest of the car I use only de-i! I figure it would cost more than that to use a carwash that had no-spot rinse!
