Dealer ruined paint

I just purchased a G35 coupe Black Obsidian/Black Interior. Like a fool I bought the sales pitch about the so called clear coat sealant and interior leather protection the dealer offers and I left my coupe at the dealer on Friday morning. Well they called me leter that afternoon to tell me the car was ready so I went to pick it up. When I saw my G35 it floored me as I looked I saw buffer burns on the hood and trunk (That lifted the pint) and massive swirls as if the factory clear coat had been scratched possibly after they washed it maybe they used a rough towel intead of a chamois to dry the car. I refused to take they car home in the condition it was in so they had my G35 sent to their body shop and at this point I'm feeling that this is not going to correct the problem, jesus I only had 280 miles on my coupe and now the paint was ruined. Its been 4 days now and still no solution as I went back to the dealer last night as my coupe had come back from the body shop and it seems that all they did was a makeover where they wet sanded the hood and trunk and waxed and tried to buff out the swirls. I told the dealer that the car I brought in for them to preserve is no longer the car I had before and I demanded a replacement. Well they fringed at the idea of replacing my G so it looks like its time to litigate. Any suggestions on resolving this issue without litigation from you guys out there would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dealer ruined paint

i'd try to find a shop that you trust bring the car there, and make the dealership pay for the work.

Ask the GM for the name and contact of his insurance carrier as you wasnt to file a claim - this may scare him into helping you out more. Also tell him you are contacting all the local media and word will get out like wildfire that they damaged your car.

Re: Dealer ruined paint

First, document everything w/ pictures. Note all the dates and time you were there and who you spoke w/. If the paint is as bad as you say it is, then you should demand a new car since you paid for their detailing service and they screwed up on your new car. You should demand two things:

1. Refund on the detailing service
2. A new car

If they wet sanded the vehicle, then what they basically did was remove a layer of paint from your car. That layer is very important as it protects the paint from harmful UV rays. Your paint is no longer new. Second, if they offer to repaint the car.......you must realize aftermarket paint is not as good as manufacturer paint.

That's what I'd do. Hope everything works out for you.

Re: Dealer ruined paint

I was in the same dilemna. My car had two scratches on it and so i brought it to the dealer. THey said they were going to buff it out. WHen i got it back, deep swirl marks over the areas that were buffed. I complained about it and they couldnt do anything. I suggest going to a REAL detailer to get the swirls fixed. I did and now my cars perfect. NEVER trust infinit service to detail your car. They aren't 'real' detailers

Re: Dealer ruined paint

Actually a lot of manufacturer paint is not that good. A good shop (not maaco or anything in that vein) can apply good paint that will even carry a warranty. But yes, have it done at a good shop and have the dealers insurance pay for it.
