Quick Question about Debadging
Quick Question about Debadging
aite so i debadged my car. all the letters are gone and everything, but im sort of in a tight spot. my friend said i have to take off the film on the car from the letters. he says... it goes... film, glue then letters. and i took off everything but the film i guess. he says that i should use rubbing alcohol to take off the film cuz if i jus put wax on it right away it will mess up the paint. so i was wondering did you guys do that or did you guys jus put wax right off the bat? also.... i have a little discoloring around the part where the G35 emblems use to be, is there anything i can do to fix that? i jus need to know what to do next now since im at this stage and dont wanna mess up my paint by doin something im not suppose to do. thanks
Aight, man first you need to buy this product by 3M called "3M adhesive remover" it comes in a pour type can or spray. I would recommend the spray, that will get rid of any of the glue residue or film. All you would have to do is use a soft rag like a micro fiber or something along those lines a wipe it off. It works the best I use it at work to remove the residue from the emblems. And for the discoloration use another product by 3M called Hand Glaze its in a Black bottle. You can get both of these products at any paint supply store like Mattos. But be careful with the hand glaze dont rub it too hard in to your paint since its black you could scratch it. I hope that helps if you got any more paint related questions PM me.
I use 3M too... "General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner"... in a red and white spray can... For the color difference I think any good polish (not wax) like Meguiar's #6 should help blend it...

i heard rubbing alcohol should do the trick to take off the film. but i think thats the thing that made some discoloring? could i use anything else to take off the film? i have goo-gone with me should that do the trick? i think whats left is just the film. could i use goo gone to take off the film or rubbing alcohol or do i have to buy that 3M thing? also, how do you clean/wash microfiber drying towels?

As far as cleaning micro-fiber towels... you can just wash them like any other towel... I sometimes like to wash them by hand though so the machine doesn’t affect the fibers... but it really isn’t necessary to wash by hand. I suggest a moderately delicate setting and not high heat in the dryer.

aite thanks man. okay so im in a tight spot. i debadge my car yesterday.. but the shade of the letterings are still there. my friend told me that thas the film. he said rubbing alcohol will take it off, but i think it made some discoloring in my car, so i dont want to use that again. i was told 3M adhesive remover would work, but i couldnt find it. will goo gone work? should i rub some more of that stuff on my car? also... i found this other adhesive remover, but didnt want to get it cuz wasnt sure if it was auto approved. the brand was Klean-Strip Adhesive Remover. does anyone know if thatll work and if its safe for autos? i couldnt find 3M Adhesive Remover anywhere. i checked Home Depot and Wal-Mart.

bump ^ please read above. jus need some help on my dilemma. i havent touched my car since i first took off the emblems and now it still has film from the glue still on the car. dont know if leaving it out in the sun and not touching it is bad, so need help and advice asap. thanks
The color difference is in your top coat or clear so you can have a wetsand and buff it out or you could use a hand rubbing glaze it depends on how noticable it is. But use the 3M stuff i told you about its not that expensive and it works well and you can use any hand rubbing glaze. But make sure its glaze not compound unless plan to buff it. I know exactly what you talking about the color difference b/c i work for carmax and remove emblems on a regular basis. Send me some picks of your trunk and I can give you my opinion.
where can i get 3M Adhesive Remover and that glaze stuff? can you tell me exactly what that glaze stuff is and brand and where to get it also. and... instructions on what to do. the color difference isnt that noticable, so i probably wont have to buff it out. im pretty sure glaze and some wax or polish will do the job. some advice?
