Cob webbing on the chrome

This is my first car with any significant amount of chrome on it.

For some reason the chrome around the back door gets cob web marks (or swirls or whatever you like to call them) when you just look at it funny. I've not had the same problem with other pieces of chrome on the car like the rear spoiler or the front grill.

So, how are you guys caring for this area around the rear window?

I tried some Flitz metal polish and that seemed to make it worse. I'll try some Scratch-X or some Menzerna next unless someone has a better suggestion.

I don't think that polishes. Just removes contaminants

It sounds like the chrome finish may be slightly defective.
