07 stock Powder Coated Rims *Alert*

I own a 07 g sedan and my rims are F'd. I used Eagle one wheel cleaner and it ate through the top layer of the paint on the wheels. I didnt even know that these wheels are painted!

Now you can just see the black primer...Please be carefull with using wheel cleaners on the g ride.

I am clueless on what to do now.

Side note...clean on any bird droppings on the ride asap...It ate through my paint in just two days.

I dunno whats wrong with your paint.... bird poop doesn't affect mine!

Do you have the 17" or the 18" rims (S model/Journey with the rims package or X or base?)

If you wanted to see how your ride would look with black powder coated rims, then post a picture up of your car and then someone can probably photoshop it.

If you used E1 all wheel and tire cleaner, that is strange that it ate through the finish, how did you apply it? I've used it on my old OEM 19's a few times, and it didn't harm the finish, but you have to follow the directions carefully

Did you wax/polish your car on a regular basis before this happened?

Did you read the bottle at all? Didn't the Etching part of the product description worry you? Etching wheel cleaner is meant to be used on bare aluminum wheels ONLY. The cleaner did exactly what it was supposed to do, "etch" off your wheel finish. Hopefully you learned your lesson from this mistake.

Ouch. You gotta be more careful with your toy/investment! Esp a young 07. Thought about your next step yet? Salvaged wheels? Aftermarket (this would be a great excuse for that ; ))?

But seriously

Take your wheels to a refinishing shop. They'll be like new for $150-$200 a piece.
