clean wheel wells?

What do you use to do this, anything special. i usually just spray off whatever i can get, but i'm tired of seeing them dirty. Is there anything i can use to kind of shine them up some?

Re: clean wheel wells?

I use one of those shower brushes with a long handle, does it pretty good, maybe a wheel cleaner would work too, not sure about that! It's hard to clean the wheel wells on this car since there isn't a whole lot of clearance from the wheel!

I never thought of that thanks, I just ordered a 6 pack of detail brushes from meguiars, maybe the largest one will work. i think it's supposed to be a wheel brush but there's no way i'm using it on the wheels

Re: clean wheel wells?

Sure, the one I have been using lately is one of those that looks like a flower, perforated material, know what I mean? It works well, had the wells pretty dirty from a rainy stretch a couple of weeks ago, they look great now! LOL, and I thought I was the only person who cleaned the wheel wells!

Re: clean wheel wells?

To clean them, use Hi-Intensity cleaner from properautocare.com. Use a plastic wire bristle brush and give it a good scrub. Now... the secret to keeping them clean is dress the whole area with tire gloss! I use Zaino for it and it keeps my wheel wells jet black and real easy to clean.

Re: clean wheel wells?

If you want to keep them clean use any kind of plastic polish/cleaner. Armor All would probably work, just don't get in on the tread.

LOL afr0puff, when I first read this, I thought you had said to use a "wire" brush, instead of a "plastic" one, I was like, oh yeah that will get it clean, look real nice, LOL, glad I read it again!

Re: clean wheel wells?

I only buy the cleaning stuff from him, and I do own the wash bucket. The "hardware" is easily found elsewhere for much less. I bought the same nozzle at Tarzhey for $10. I have been using the: Wheel Cleaner, Speed Shine (far superior to Zymol), Car wash, Rubber Cleaner. My bro-in-law has all of his products in his garage. www.leonoff.net

Re: clean wheel wells?

How does the rubber cleaner work, do you have to apply a protectant afterwards? I just like to keep my tires clean and flat black, don't like shiny tires.

Re: clean wheel wells?

i use a terry cloth with turtle wax bug and tree sap remover that product is the best thing i ever bought to clean and wipe down grime and tar that gets on the wheel wells and lower body of the car. I live in NY so I always get that stuff on the car.

Re: clean wheel wells?

But, can you just use the cleaner and not apply use a tire shine? The tires on my G, have looked nice and black since I bought the car in October, it was in the showroom, and I asked the detail guy what he used, and he said he just cleaned them really well, all I have used on them is car wash soap (Zymol).
