Black Color.

Guys,

I am not sure if I am the only person who is experiencing this. I got my car last Dec. I got a Lot's and a Lot's of micro (spider) scratches in my paint. I spoke to a body shop guy and a car wash detail center. They both have told me Infiniti clear coat on the black color is horrible. After this winter I have to get my car polished for sure. Let me know if anyone else sees the same pattern on their paint. I wash my car and i use clean micro towels. I also use two different bucket. One with soap and one with water so i can wash off my dirty sponge.

Regards,

Everyone has this. It just shows a lot more on black cars.

Keeping a black car looking new is a full-time job, but it pays off when the car is polished and clean.

Regards,
What exactly are you calling "spider scratches", those circular marks you get in the finish? I think you would be surprised that most likely, they are not in the paint, only in the wax, and really just show up more on the black. I've had two previous G35's, silver than lakeshore slate, IMO the quality of the Infiniti clearcoat is as good if not better than a lot of cars I've owned. You say you use two buckets, do you rinse with a hose or a bucket? Besides, what I call spiders are fine hairline cracks in the finish, that pick up wax and then show because you can't get the wax out, not swirl marks, GM cars of the 60's and 70's were infamous for this.

You bet, of course every car gets these, I owned a lot of dark red vehicles over the years, and the black is no worse than that. I get sick and tired of people like those shops talking trash about Infiniti paint being any different than other brands, my bet is if you drove in the same shop with any black car they'd say that brand had the worst paint. You bet, a dark color car sparkles a lot more when clean and polished than a lighter one!

07 G35 OB...big mistake. I loved the look of the car when clean but so hard to keep clean. I kinda stopped trying.

Regards,
They are feeding you some good BS right there. Infiniti doesn't have a different clear coat process specifically for BO. The clear coat on BO is the exact same as every other color........you just notice the light scratches and spider webbing more easily on BO is all. Infiniti has soft paint and with improper washing/drying habits, you'll get spider webbing extremely easy. Spend some time reading the two threads stickied at the top of the page and learn how to properly take care of your G.

If you're lazy and you picked up a black car, you're in for a disappointment. Black is beautiful but it's also high maintenance. If you're noticing a lot of swirl marks from YOU washing your own car, you're using the wrong sponge and techniques. Get the softest microfiber wash mitten you can find. A normal sponge or lamb wool mitten will often put swirl marks on dark color cars that's very noticeable on a black car. For the hood, roof and trunk, wash using a back and forth motion rather than a circular motion. For the fenders and doors, use an up and down motion. Use the same technique for drying. It won't eliminate any swirl marks but will prevent them. Also, the more pressure you apply while washing and drying your car, the deeper the swirl marks.

Having a black car can be the greatest and worse experience.

For sure, make sure you use clean microfiber, I have a nice microfiber mitt, or use a microfiber cloth to wash, and microfiber and Big Blue Towel to dry. For sure, if you're lazy, black will start looking bad. But from my observations, any color will look bad if it's not maintained. Black is no worse than this color, this was showed the dust just like my black G does!

I am not disappointed. I have to agree that the Infiniti paint is soft. I will get my car polished and from there i will maintain it better. Thanks for the information.

Are you a young guy? I know I learned a lot of things the hard way when it comes to taking care of cars, no matter the color. My first new car was a burgundy '68 Mustang, and I was a rookie at keeping the car nice then, I did learn a lot from that car! And believe me, they didn't have anywhere near the products for car care back then, just waxes and polish, saddle soap for the interior. LOL, I learned the hard way with that car not to use anything like Formula 409 to clean the seats, ruined my driver seat vinyl!
