Help - Used PlastiX on Headlights

I used some PlastiX on my headlights as many others have. I applied it using a soft sock with light hand pressure. I went to rub it off with a microfiber and there are swirl marks which will not come out. I tried my best to rub them but they look etched into the lens. I know PlastiX is not abrasive so how did it do this to the surface of the lens? It now looks alot worse then before. How can I get these swirl and cloudiness off the lens?

Most likely your sock scratched the plastic. Don't panic -- get appropriate applicator (like a good quality microfiber towel) and do it again, repeat until it looks good.

What you did is basically put some rubbing compound on some sand paper... oops, lesson learned?

I Would Try To Use It Again Beginning From Step One And See If That Works. But Use A New Microfiber Towel From The Get Go. If That Fails, you Might Have To Wet Sand It With Some 2000 Grit Sandpaper. Make Sure To Keep Running Water On It And Sand It Evenly. Dry Then Buff It With A Microfiber Towel And Plastic Cleaner. Let Dry And Buff Out Again Lightly With A New Clean Microfiber Towel. Good Luck

The lens was clean and the sock was clean. I dont see how bad it was to use the sock. It is actually softer than some app pads I have seen. I did not even apply much pressure and only let it dry 1 minute.
I will try again to apply with an app pad and buff off with a microfiber. I hope is clears up. Could I apply some wax on there and buff it with a machine?

well if you have a machine, you can polish the headlight as you would paint and should get your problem cleared up, but not with wax, with abrasive polish.

PLASTIC polish... use your plastx or whatever, or use 3M Plastic Polish/Cleaner (two step process). I've used the 3M stuff many times and it leaves a brand new lens. I also used it on a scratched up instrument cluster window and it looked brand new.

Always used MF tho.. I don't second-guess science based on how something feels on my hand. Try rubbing your sock on the data side of a CD and see if it scratches it.

man i have used plastx before but its a b****h to keep on cleaning 2x week, i just got this company's product and it really cleared up and headlights, going on three months and still clear, the cool think about this is that it takes off the oxidized layer of the plastic, look it up www.headlightsolutions.net, or search it in yahoo, for 10 bucks the basic kit you cant beat it...

You applied it wrong... PlastX has abrasives in it that diminish or get smaller as you rub it in. You didn't allow the abrasives to get smaller. You should be making the whole car rock using that stuff. When it rubs clear, then you buff it off. Just use it again, using some power and work it in until it looks like it is almost gone. Also, don't let it dry. Just buff it right off after it is thoroughly worked in. Did you read the directions?
