Few tint questions

hey everyone.. now that its getting hot, i want to get my car tinted, but i have a few questions and was wondering if anyone had any input.. well here are my questions:

1. Can anyone recommend a tint shop around diamond bar or anaheim, CA or anywhere up to 15 away?
2. How much should I pay for the tint job on a coupe?
3. What kind of tint would you suggest on a TB? solarguardgraphite? Quantum? ceramic based tint? And is there any significant difference between the 2? warranty on fading?
4. Does anyone know the legalities of having tint on the front windows if you have doctor's note?
5. will metal based tints affect the operation of a nav/radio?
6. anyone tint their windsheild? is the lightest tint noticable? is it true that if you get caught with it, the cops can impound your car?

id really appreciate any information... thanks

don't know but if youre looking for a good place 2500 miles away (Hawaii) ProTint.

2. How much should I pay for the tint job on a coupe?

I paid $160, for drivers, passengers, quarter windows and rear window.

3. What kind of tint would you suggest on a TB? solarguardgraphite? Quantum? ceramic based tint? And is there any significant difference between the 2? warranty on fading?

I like LLumen, the one I got was a grey platnum tint (non reflective), it turned out great it doesn't look green like some others I've heard about. Warrany (which includes fading) is lifetime for original owner. I got a twilight blue and the grey tints match the best.

4. Does anyone know the legalities of having tint on the front windows if you have doctor's note?

???

5. will metal based tints affect the operation of a nav/radio?

Not sure but probably, I know Lexus strongly recommends againts metalized tints on their vehicles that have the antenna in the glass, it's even in the manual.

6. anyone tint their windsheild? is the lightest tint noticable? is it true that if you get caught with it, the cops can impound your car?

???

Re: Few tint questions

1) Nope, sorry. Last time I had windows tinted I was in South Texas. My G35 hasn't gotten this yet.

2) See #1.

3) Dunno.

4) It's not legal. With a doctor's note, the sunscreen device on the front windows must be removable, so that it can be removed at night. Enforcement tends to vary by region and by rice-iness of the vehicle in question. (Big wing, big exhaust, body kit, chrome rims, etc.. they're more likely to look for front window tint. I've gotten a speeding ticket in a stock '92 Accord with front tint, and the officer didn't mention the tint at all.)

5) Yes. How much? It varies. The antenna is integrated with the defroster in the rear window. If the areas you frequent have strong signals, you probably won't notice. If you travel through fringe reception areas, you probably will.

6) You can tint the top 6" I believe. Doing the whole thing is definately illegal. I haven't heard of the impound thing. I know for front side windows they'll give you a fix-it ticket that requires you to remove it. I would imagine it's the same for the front, but I can't say.

Re: Few tint questions

make sure you get the best tint the first time because taking the old stuff off when it fades could mess-up your rear defroster. The dyed tint is cheaper, thinner & more plyable which makes it easier to install and usually goes over the dot matrix around the edge of the window without looking bubbled making the tint look good temporarily.the good tint with metal has a light green tint & doesn't go over the dots easily but it keeps out the heat 10x better than the dyed tint.I painted the 4 inch strip across the top of the back window and installed two layers on the back three windows(limo over dark).the front two are x-light, you can get legal tint but it looks clear.

Re: Few tint questions

So are you saying that the metal based tint is 10x better than the dyed tint overall... heatwise, lookswise, and quality?.. if so whats a good brand for metal based tint?

6. You won't get your car impounded, but you will get a fix-it ticket and have to have the tint removed. I don't suggest tinting the windshield.

Re: Few tint questions

Ryoken was exactly right about the doctor's note. The tint has to be removeable, it would actually be a sunscreen. Just get your car registered in Arizona, you can can tint it real dark.

I had the tint on my Sedan done at Acutint in Montclair. (909)625-3939. They used High Performance True Grey,
$189. Lifetime warranty. I can't remember who makes the film though. I know it is a partially mettalized film.

Re: Few tint questions

I think I paid the most here... 230 for Quantum Metallic 19 tint here in San Diego. I don't mind paying extra for a good tint job. My peeve is the area around the edges of the rear windows that have the different little sized dots. If the guy doesn't know what he's doing then you'll get a tint separation from the window in that band. Really noticable from the exterrior ... my 2cents.
