PC or FLex?
PC or FLex?
i did a search, found a vid and some other threads. nothing really with the answer im loking for. I know most of you all use the PC and have great results. im new to this detail thing and i really care for my car, i want it to look great and stay that way as long as i can help it. I get praised on how good my car looks, but i cant stand seeing the swirl marks from the previous owner, so im lookin into gettin a machine to help me, i get tired from hand waxin. So i did some research on both machines, hey both look about the same, and the specs look close. ok, im guess what im trying to say is, what the hell do i need to get my car back to top shape again. it has minor to moderate swirls and a nice bird droppin etched on the front of my hood. im looking for answers on the machine to pads, and what polishes, waxes or sealants you may recomend. i kno ill prolly need to compound the paint, so what do i need for that? i checked out detailed image ardy, i want to order some products, but i want to make sure i buy the correct ones. THANKS in advance!
fast04G good question. For a quick answer, if the Flex XC3401VRG is within your budget and you can wait a month or so to receive one, it's by far a better investment in the long run. Spec wise, they may seem similar but they are worlds apart when it comes to paint correction. With a Flex, I can correct twice as many imperfections in half the time compared to using a PC 7424 (here's a video showing this). The ergonomics of the Flex make it much easier to control than a PC at similar speeds. At full speed, the Flex can jump around on you a bit, but it just takes a little concentration and a firm grip. After using the Flex side by side with the PC, the 7424 will feel like a toy.
The PC was the first random orbital that became the standard in the auto detailing industry and it certainly serves its purpose. For lighter imperfections, the PC is fine, but when it comes to deeper paint correction the PC can take a long time to achieve comparable results.
One of the downsides of the Flex is they are backordered from Flex North America and we've accumulated a bunch of pre-orders. I'm expecting an order in this week, but that probably will not cover the current pre-orders. Chances are if you ordered soon, you'd be on the next shipment of buffers, but that probably won't be until late March / early April.
If you have any specific questions about the two units, please do not hesitate to ask. After a couple of polishing sessions on your car with the Flex, the time you'll save (not to mention better results) pays for the difference between the Flex and the PC.
