Re: Prestone wheel cleaner & brake dust repellant
I don't know about any of that stuff, I bought some Meguiars Hot Rims cleaner, it does okay as long as it's just brake dust, but once the wheels have been slopped up by driving in the rain, it doesn't do very good, besides, it smells a bit acidy to me, I'm sure that's why it works sometimes, and also it says not to leave on longer than 15 seconds, WTF, it takes that long to spray it on, geez!

Xman, I came across this from a thread either here or at FA, the guy who posted it swears by it, he said it's anti-static proerties keep brake dust from sticking, I'm tempted to try some soon!

That was me that swears by the Wash Wax cleaner at aerocosmetics. I use it on my airplane, on my stock 18" wheels, and when I need to get a tough bug or tar stain off the paint of my car or my plane. I use the Heavy Duty for the wheels, and the "regular" for anything that will show streaking.
I use it twice a week. The rest of the days, after I get home from hell (I mean work), I pick out a nice cigar, go to the garage, peel off two sheets of that blue disposable shop towel stuff, and spend 5 MINUTES simply wiping off the brake dust from the wheels.
I also use it on the rear bumper and trunk. For some reason, exhaust smegma or road smegma seems to want to congregate in this area I guess from the airflow/wake turblulance design of the car. I use the Wash Wax regular back there, and nothing sticks (as bad).
Make sure you get the scrub pads that come with the kit, they are amazing and will not scratch. DISCLAIMER: I have not tried this on Black or other dark cars.

LOL, I was going to say, twice a week would be pretty obsessive! Which "blue" shop towels you talking about, the Scott towels? I would think they might scratch, I know regular paper towels will.

They're blue, they sell them at AutoZone, I think they're called "disposable shop towels" or something like that. They are much softer than a paper towel, and much more durable.
You think 2x a week is obsessive? Lol, I've had her for 3 weeks and 900 miles now and I've washed the car about 7 times. I wipe the wheels clean every single night, but only used the Wash Wax twice now.

These? http://www.backscatter.com/hostedsto...cts/AC-ST.html I use these in my garage all the time, they are softer than a regular towel, but to clean the car? Well, when your car is new, you do wind up washing it more, don't think I did mine 7 times the first three weeks though, maybe 6, LOL!

Xman,
Mine is white.
ABQ,
That looks like them yes, and I only use them to do the wheels and the windows. Brake dust absolutely ruins towels. I can only throw away so much old underwear . For anything painted I only use a microfiber cloth.

Catatafish, glad to hear that you don't use them on painted surfaces, I also see a lot of hazy window tint, and it wouldn't surprise me if paper towels were used on it, they would probably work on my wheels okay since they are chrome!
