Cleaning carpet in flooded car :(

My G was recently caught in a flood, water seeped into the car and soaked up all the carpets. its been drying out since and now theres a horrible moldy smell coming from the carpet. WHAT DO I DO?!! I was thinking of taking it for an interior detail that would shampoo the carpets. any suggestions?

My buddy had this same problem. He said he went to costco and bought tins of coffee grounds. He spread those all over the carpet and let them soak up the water and the smell. Then vacuumed them out. Not sure how long to keep them in the car. Give that a shot before you spend a ton of money.

One quick thing you can do for odors is put a few plates of baking soda around your car. This will help absorb odor and moisture. We just got in Chemical Guys Extreme Offensive Odor Eliminator, which is a concentrated formula and is designed to kill odor causing bacteria. We also have their non-concentrated version of CG SOFAST Odor Eater, which you'd simply use without diluting the product.

Your other options is to find a detail with either a fogger machine, or often referred to as an Ozone machine. Or get your carpets and upholstery extracted by a pro.

Hope this helps.

you could remove all of the seats and get the car carpet redone. Did insurance not cover any of this? I would be more worried about the electronics than the carpet.

if that was my car, after filing the claim with my insurance i would
pretty much gut the interior and anti-bacterial spray everything.

wash the carpeting on the driveway with water and soap, shopvac it,
let it dry in the sun. depending on how saturated the seats were,
i would do the same making sure not to get water in the electronics.
dont forget to check the trunk too.

i would also cover up the electronics in the engine and wash it down...
put the car on ramps /jackstands and wash the undercarriage real well
too. it will be a 2-3 day project but should get it nice and clean again.
