Vinylex for side-mirror mounts?

I have been using Vinylex on my 2005 sedan's side-mirror mounts for the past few months with mixed results. I have used Vinylex assuming that the mounts are some type of plastic...is this correct? Also, I have been told to use Scratch-X on the mounts to remove oxidation for better results.

Should i be using another product for better results?

vinylex should work fine, it probably won't last long as its water based, but at least it have UV protection. I use 303 aerospace protectant which probably works about the same as the vinylex
